Personnel, not technology, defective.
by Roxanne McManus on Nov 6, 2009
Buzz Article: Personnel, not technology, defective.

GPS monitoring has become one of many procedures that police use with both high and low risk offenders. However, as of late there have been some questions raised on just how reliable this technology may be. The reliability of the satellites is not in question, but rather the reliability of those people who are required to analyze the data.

California is a state that has tracked sex offenders with these GPS devices since 2006. Of the 7000 registered criminals, 2200 are classified as active (high-risk ) and 4,800 are passive (low risk). In one case, parole agents ignored 276 ... (more)

Never hold for long with toilet finding app.
by Wesley Fok on Nov 1, 2009
Buzz Article: Never hold for long with toilet finding app.

They're not exactly the tricorders of Star Trek fame, but the latest generation of smartphones offer computing possibilities that would've been discarded as high fantasy only a decade or two ago. One of them is the ability to learn more about your present geographical location, whether it's an old church building in Victoria or a trashy bar in Halifax. Urban romantics are often drawn to the feeling of getting slightly lost, but the rest of us just want to know where the good shopping spots are, how to get to the subway, or even – when the urge strikes – the location of the nearest toilet.

Today is the birthday of a technology that brought the world a whole lot closer - the Internet (World Wide Web) turns 40! GPS City has a lot to be thankful for, especially the Internet. by Roxanne McManus on Oct 27, 2009
Original article from our friends at: Tomtom. Buzz Article: TomTom for DumDums.

TomTom has recently announced a product that they are gearing towards first-time GPS users. They've dubbed this unit the TomTom Start, but it seems to contain many of the same features and menu options as their One series. The only feature that has been removed is the Advanced Lane Guidance, which is an extremely beneficial tool when traveling in new or unfamiliar areas.

The main menu screen has been decluttered and bears a strong resemblance to Garmin's Nuvi series main menu screen. While this is a welcome change for the TomTom series, it doesn't simplify the other features such as Map ... (more)
