Have you ever wanted to dabble in APRS? Many people use APRS to transmit their GPS position to the web. There are units from Garmin that will allow you to directly hook up to your HAM radio and transmit your position and some will even show the position of another radio.
What is APRS? "Automatic Packet Reporting System". It is also know as the Automatic Position Reporting System because the system is often used for transmitting GPS position information. APRS is used by amateurs around the world giving the system almost global coverage. You can use it to track your position without paying any monthly fee's to cellular or satellite communication companies. Keep in mind the system is managed and maintained by amateurs so all recieving stations may not be active when you go to use them.
