When TomTom launched their iPhone app earlier this year, they chose
to ignore the prices set previously by other GPS applications. TomTom
decided to go with a USD$99 download cost, believing, it seems, that
their client base was so extensive and they had a good hold on the
market. Sales must not be going as well as expected, for
TomTom has decided to release a U.S-only coverage area app, for the
steal of a deal price USD$49. So not only are they still grossly
overpriced, but they have successfully alienated a large part of their
market. Travelers, business people, and of course the entire Canadian
population that recently brought the iPhone to more of their mobile
carriers. TomTom does offer a few features that are brand
specific to their application; IQ Routes, 2D and 3D maps views,
Advanced Lane Guidance, and the text-to-speech option, spoken
directions with street names announced. |
