Tomtom has designed a desirable and affordable GPS car navigator for the
average consumer. Tomtom utilizes TeleAtlas mapping which provide great urban navigation. One of their must-have features MapShare allows the user to make
and receive free map updates, compiled with data collected from the units themselves. This is great for temporary road closures or your a change in location of your favorite coffee shop. Doing these updates regularily helps to get the
most out of your MapShare compatible unit. Tomtom's higher end Navigation devices play music, read ebooks. For those who are easily amused, download custom voices such as; popular cartoon characters or TV and movie personalities.
Following the announcement of a NEW GPS unit this year, the TomTom Start is targeting the sub-$100 market. It is not the best GPS, ver basic and entry level, but it will get the job done. They simplified the start up screen to make it more user-friendly, like the Garmin Nuvi line. The main screen has two main options, "Plan Route" and "View Map". This is a huge improvement on the cluttered Tomtom menu system, which on other units includes up to 8 items per menu option. The unit will do navigation only without features like music or bluetooth. The Start does use some of the innovative technologies made by Tomtom such as IQ Routes and Map Share. |
