International GPS manufacturer US GlobalSat had a few new products to introduce this year. Once a contender in the PND market, they are now shifting towards more tracking solutions and OEM based devices. Bluetooth, USB, and serial are all interface types used with US GlobalSat products.
One new release we were able to scope out was the Talkie Tracker (TR-206). This system was designed with children and elders in mind, allowing them to be located and contacted in emergency situations. Since the service uses both GPS and AGPS (cell ID) the tracking ability is not hindered by indoor use or weak GPS signals. Another selling feature is the "Geo-fence" option which sets up an invisible barrier, that once crossed sends a message to the monitoring person.
For their outdoor market US GlobalSat has released 2 products. The GPS Director is a low cost, user-friendly recreational GPS, it will save up to 5 separate locations, shows clear arrow directions, uses two AAA batteries and offers 3 types of distance units; km/mile/nm. The Boomerang is another outdoor handheld including a high sensitivity receiver and waypoint marking in a IPX4 water resistant casing. Using the Travel Manager software users can preplan their routes on their PC before their trip.
