As many of us are now aware, the secret that was the Apple iPad tablet is out. Whether or not this was just a good marketing ploy, or a true case of loose lips, the results are the same - one fine machine.
Apple has been generating genre changing ideas for the past 35 years with the most recent being the iPad. Able to use the Apps so desired by iPhone users, services such as GPS navigation, traffic updates and so much more will be available on a larger format.
GPS is the latest technology to go mainstream, and the versatility spans from marine, aviation and outdoor use, as well as the Assisted GPS (AGPS) found in computers and cell phones, such as the iPad. AGPS is a service that uses Wi-Fi and cell signals to pinpoint the users location. While it may hold true that AGPS will be useful in metropolitan centers, what about those travelling outside of cell coverage areas? This is where stand alone GPS units will prevail, as they have built-in high sensitivity antennas and receivers to provide the most accurate GPS positioning.
The iPad may be the next best thing in mobile devices, but it doesn't seem to have the power to overtake current GPS technology. We'll have to see what the 2nd and 3rd generations reveal. |
