Successor to the original TomTom Rider series, the Urban Rider, has just been announced for Europe. No word on a North American release yet, but the price point is promising. €249 (USD$330) is very well priced when compared to competing units, which can cost up to USD$1000. The Urban Rider is a simplified version of the previous units, but offers large icon displays for gloved-finger use. It also includes many other useful TomTom features such as IQ Routes, to avoid traffic and other trouble areas, and Map Share for making instant corrections to your map. The long-lasting, 6 hour battery life is due to the larger Li-Ion battery provided. Unfortunately this comes at the expense of an SD card slot. So while you can ride longer without the use of external power you can load any additonal mapping, pictures or music. This will be an excellent addition for most riders, as it will act like a digital map, providing guidance for those unknown locales.
