Last spring Garmin released Inland Lake mapping for Canada to a very warm welcome. Saying that these maps were overdue would be an understatement. During the short summer months Canadians are known to partake in many water-based outdoor activities. One perceived downfall of the Inland Lake software of 2009, was the omission of BC. The provinces that were covered included Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Yukon Territory. This morning Garmin announced that they will have a BC region available immediately, boasting over 2000 lakes in BC alone as well as those that share their shores with the Yukon Territory. The detail of the lakes will include shorelines, depth contours and spot soundings. Other features defined are islands, reefs, points, bays and bottom information (where available). These attributes will benefit users greatly by reducing stress and accidents when in unfamiliar waters. The BC Inland Lake microSD/SD cards are shipping now from Garmin, pre-order yours now at GPS City.
