The Personal Navigation Device (PND) market is ever evolving, and Garmin is at the forefront for technological and user-friendly advancements. One of their recently announced options, the nuLink! 1695, is the latest in their Intelligent Navigation series.
Garmin nuLink! services can help users in a variety of ways:
- Google Local Searches
- NAVTEQ Traffic Alerts
- Weather Updates
- Fuel Price comparisons
- White Pages Look-up
- Flight Status and more!
Many of the newer nuvi units, the nuvi nuLink! 1695 included, use the nuRoute features trafficTrends and myTrends. Garmin's trafficTrends is designed to improve the recommended routes and estimated times of arrival using data collected by the unit regarding traffic at particular times and days of the week. The myTrends function collects information from the users driving habits, then predicts where the driver wishes to go before a destination has even been entered.
Both the US and Canadian version of the nuLink! 1695 include a free one-year subscription to the nuLink! services. A highly publicized use for location-based technology is "checking in" and geo-locating people or places. Garmin's version of this is called Ciao! friend finder which gives the option to display your real-time location and see where they are as well.
Availability is slated for October 2010, with pricing to be in the $450 range.
