In three easy steps, Garmin nuvi owners can now view the City Navigator maps from their GPS on a computer. Even better, it's free! Step 1: Download the free update for the specific nuvi through Garmin's WebUpdater program which is located on their website. Step 2: Download the BaseCamp software, a free program available at www.garmin.com.
Step 3: Connect the nuvi to a computer, and using BaseCamp, view and manipulate the street maps from the unit's internal memory.
BaseCamp is a complimentary software available through Garmin's website. It is fully compatible with both Mac and PC. The primary use of the BaseCamp program is to manipulate map data with waypoints, tracks and routes. When running BaseCamp, users can access all the points of interest (POI) from the maps loaded on their GPS, including hotels, restaurants and bank machine locations. Handheld units preloaded with topo maps, such as the Garmin GPSMAP 62ST or the Oregon 450T/550T, can also be viewed on a computer. The steps are identical for viewing, except the maps will include contour lines, backroads and waterways instead of points of interest. |
