Garmin recently announced BirdsEye TOPO mapping for the US and Canada. The one year mapping subscription lets customers download and transfer an unlimited amount of USGS and NRC raster maps to their handheld. To downloading, a compatible Garmin device and BaseCamp software is required.
The downloaded raster maps are shown in a 1:24,000 scale USGS raster maps and a 1:50,000 scale NRC raster maps. Map coverage is available for the entire United States and Canada below 68 degrees latitude (as shown in the coverage map pictured at left).
With map images similar to paper maps, users familiar with paper maps will easily recognize features like parking and camping areas, trails, points of interest, water sources and more. With roads, buildings and terrain, users have the option of layering Garmin vector maps on their handheld for a real-life view.
The BirdsEye TOPO are compatible with the following units: the Oregon series, Colorado series, Dakota series, Montana series, GPSMAP 62 series, 78 series, Edge 800, Rino 6xx and Astro 320. Please note, each subscription can only be used with one Garmin unit; a new subscription must be purchased for each individual device.
