Garmin today announced two new additions to the company's cycling division: the Garmin Edge 200 and the Garmin Vector. The Edge 200 is a GPS-enabled cycling computer while the Vector is a highly accurate pedal-based power meter. Both devices are designed for cyclists, by cyclists.
The Garmin Edge 200 tracks time, distance, speed, location and calories burned, allowing riders to store up to 130 hours worth of data. The cycling GPS also sorts cyclists' rides by fastest, longest or most recent. Weighing only two ounces, the lightweight Edge 200 can be easily moved from one bike to another. The inclusion of HotFix satellite prediction helps riders’ calculate their current position quickly and accurately. With no setup required, the Garmin Edge 200 caters to those who ride for fun as well as those who ride competitively. Additionally, the Edge 200 offers some new features including Courses and Auto Pause. Courses lets riders challenge their times from previous rides. With Auto Pause, the Edge 200 timer stops when riders stop moving then automatically restarts when movement begins again.
Dan Bartel, vice president of worldwide sales at Garmin, explained, "The Edge 200 was designed for those budget conscious cyclists looking for the basics - speed, distance, time and calories. With no setup or sensors required, simply switch on, press start and go. The Edge 200 adds so much to your ride that no ride will ever be the same again."
The Garmin Vector (pictured at right) offers cyclists the most accurate training data by measuring power where it matters - under riders' feet. The ANT+ wireless pedal pod transmitters, which collects ride data, are compatible with most popular bike cranksets. Automatically measuring cadence and balance, Vector reports the right and left leg power separately. Cyclists can use the Vector to improve their training regiment by obtaining pedal stroke reports and making improvements where necessary. Vector can easily be installed within minutes making it easy to use one device on multiple bikes. When paired with compatible Garmin Edge cycling units or Garmin Forerunner watches, the Garmin Vector helps riders bring their training to a new level.
As the lightest power meter on the market, “Vector becomes one of the most desirable solutions in the cycling market. It’s similar to going from 2D to 3D. There’s a richness in data and capabilities that come from the combination of our location of measurement - the pedals - and Vector’s sensor design,” said Bartel. |
