Today, Garmin announced the ANT+ adapter for iPhone. The adapter enables users to gather and store workout data on their iPhone. During a workout, users can connect the adapter to a heart rate monitor, foot pod, or cadence sensor to record speed, pace, distance, and cadence. With the data conveniently on the iPhone, users can easily view and analyze recent workouts as well as archived workouts. Along with the ANT+ adapter, Garmin released the Garmin Fit, a fitness app for both iPhone and Android users. Garmin Fit automatically uploads workout statistics to a user's Garmin Connect account and saves the data for future comparisons. The Garmin Fit app is designed for everyone from beginners to professional athletes. Users begin by setting up their own profile, adding their height, weight, date of birth, and gender to customize the settings. Whether cycling, running, or walking, Garmin Fit can be used alone, or with the ANT+ adapter. The Activity Setup menu in Garmin Fit allows users to customize their workout with playlists found in their own music library. This setup menu is also where external sensors such as the heart rate monitor, cadence sensor, and foot pod are selected to receive data. After selecting an activity, a map screen displays data fields of elapsed time and current distance traveled. Users can swipe the screen to the right to find more information including pace and calories burned. On the bottom left, there is a handy lock feature that ensures the app will run during an entire workout and will not accidentally shut off. For lap data, the settings menu offers choices of distance in miles or kilometers. The adapter's compatibility with the iPhone and Garmin Fit app is about convenience. Garmin makes working out easy by eliminating the guesswork of where, how fast, and how far. Additionally, the ANT+ adapter and Garmin Fit app keep users connected to the outside world. Users can access calls and texts on their phone while working out. All incoming calls and text messages can be answered without disrupting Garmin Fit or the workout data. At its release, the Garmin Fit App is priced at $0.99 and the ANT+ adapter is priced at $49.95. Get the Garmin Fit app for the iPhone (available in iTunes store) or Android! |
