Last week, Garmin announced a free firmware upgrade for GPS 17x HVS. With the upgrade, the GPS 17x HVS software version 2.90 offers improved WAAS satellite tracking. WAAS stands for the Wide Area Augmentation System and is a network of satellites and ground stations setup to constantly provide GPS signal corrections for more accurate positioning. For WAAS-enabled GPS receivers, their position accuracy is up to five times better than other receivers. With the new software update, the GPS 17x HVS, a receiver/antenna with high sensitivity reception and accuracy, will provide Garmin marine instruments, autopilots, and multifunction displays a reading within three meters of the user's location. |
