Rocanda has released an iPhone App to convert LSD or BCNTS to latitude/longitude coordinates. Oilfield, agriculture, delivery service personnel, and many others will find this software indispensable.
Based out of the Alberta/Saskatchewan border city of Lloydminster, Rocanda has plenty of on-hand experience with the Western Canada LSD (Legal Subdivision) grid system.
The LSD coordinates, used primarily in AB and SK, are broken down into values: Quarter, LSD, Section, Township, Range, and Meridian. Once these values are entered into the LandTracker App, they are able to be converted into latitude and longitude coordinates. These latitude/longitude numbers can be used with a handheld GPS, vehicle GPS or paper map.
BCNTS data is similar to the LSD coordinates. The fields include: Quarter, Centizone, Zone Block, Map Unit, Map Unit Sub, and Map Sheet.
Rocanda also offers their Western Canada LSD Grid Map on a preloaded microSD/SD card. The cards can be used with many Garmin handheld and vehicle units. This software lists the LSD locations and will route the user to the destination via MetroGuide, a road navigation program.
