Following the success of their previous AllSport GPS, Geocache
Navigator, and Trimble Outdoors apps, Trimble has released two new apps for
iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android smartphones. The new
Outdoors MyTopo Maps and Outdoors Navigator allow users to find local
trails and plan routes. While these two apps are
downloaded separately, data collected can be transferred between the two apps using the Trimble Outdoors Trip Cloud, a free download. Currently available only on the iPad, MyTopo
Maps works best for
locating parks and trails, preplanning adventures, and creating maps of
more obscure roads. The app includes both Canadian and US topo maps with
over ten million Points Of Interest.
Additionally, aerial, terrain, street, and hybrid map views are available. Using the Dual Map Views, two maps can be viewed at once to show
increased amounts of detail. For those using Apple or Android
smartphones, the Trimble Outdoors Navigator app can be used for
navigating on-screen with a map and compass. Users can access more than
68,000 off-line topo maps for the US and Canada. This offline option is beneficial to people in the backcountry where cell or data signals might not be available. With the Trimble Outdoors Navigator app, all types of trips can be recorded and reused on future excursions. These apps are available at the Apple App Store and Android Market. Basic versions are free to try while full Pro options range from $1.00 to $10.00. |
