This past weekend, Fernie, British Columbia was the latest stop of the 3rd annual Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle (BMB) tour. Their tagline "The ultimate scavenger hunt" is not far off the mark with applicants hiking and climbing the mountain at Fernie Alpine Resort. Teams are equipped with the Flaik GPS tracking system, which monitors their progress as they search for the hidden checkpoints along the route. The fastest team received an awesome Helly Hansen prize package worth $2,000 and swag from race sponsors, as well as an entry to the Battle of the Bowls final on March 25, 2012 in Aspen/Snowmass. All participants received a Helly Hansen Base Layer, valued at $45, so registration was essentially free, as teams of two registered for $90. For those who love geocaching and searching for hidden caches, the Battles are great events to consider. If you missed the Fernie events, Big Mountain Battles will be taking place this month and next in popular ski towns across the US and Canada: February 25, 2012 - Squaw Valley, CA March 11, 2012 - Steven's Pass, WA March 17, 2012 - Killington, VT March 24, 2012 - Kicking Horse, BC & Park City, UT |
