 Garmin has announced a marine-based mobile device application. The brand new Garmin BlueChart Mobile app will be available this summer from the Apple App Store and will offer many features to supplement their popular chartplotters. While the installed Bluecharts give you bathymetric lines, spot soundings, shipping lanes, hazards, navigation aids and more, the app also allows you to overlay weather conditions, dew points, and wind direction/speed, cloud cover, and other data. It is a prefect suplement to your networked Garmin chartplotter, as you can even wirelessly transfer your routes and waypoints between the app and your boat. Stay at home and plan your route, then wirelessly transfer it to your chartplotter once aboard the craft. BlueChart Mobile will also include access to ActiveCaptain. The ActiveCaptain portion of the app provides access to real-time reviews of local marinas and hazards. It contains mariner-maintained and -created reviews and trusted Garmin bluecharts chartopgraphy to make boating more enjoyable.
