A trio of Japanese tourists traveling to Australia remembered to pack their swim suits, sunglasses and cameras. However in all the vacation excitement they forgot to bring along their common sense. While exploring the area of Cleveland, these three travelers asked their GPS to take them to North Stradbroke Island. Well the GPS decided to direct them to their destination via the shortest distance, straight across Moreton Bay. After making it 500m across a firm gravel bed with little trouble, they hit what locals call "Mangrove Mud". Stuck in muck up to the axles at low tide wasn't such a problem, but with the tide coming in and quickly they were forced to seek assistance. A good way to avoid situations like this is to bring along your own GPS, that you personally have updated; both maps and firmware. Garmin offers a wide variety of vehicle navigators that accept maps for countries worldwide on SD memory.
