Early in September Calgarians using the Navteq Traffic service would have noticed interruptions in their updates. This interruption is affecting Navteq Traffic compatible devices, such as the Garmin Nuvi line. We have received a statement from both Garmin and Navteq as to the cause of this interruption. On July 11, 2012 a fire broke out in the downtown location of Shaw Communications. The damages caused by this fire affected many operations including 911 emergency, TV and radio stations; including CKRY-FM, the broadcast station for Navteq Traffic service in Calgary. The equipment used in this broadcast was not damaged at the time of fire, but is being transported to a new location within the city. The information provided did not include a timeframe of when the traffic service will be operational again, but technicians are working to get it up and running as soon as possible.
