A geocache event was staged last month in the mountains of Kentucky and West Virginia. The event was to commemorate the history of the area with the notorious story of the Hatfield and McCoy family feud. The History Channel's mini-series had fueled the popularity of this story, creating a successful geocache event. With over 500 visitors attending the occasion, the county decided to dedicate the area to the permanent Hatfield McCoy Geo Trail as a tourist attraction. Geocaching.com has listed over 15 caches in the counties that connect with this Geo Trail. Each cache is located in historic locations that tie the families who were introduced in the History Channel mini-series. Cachers are given a passport and receive special stamps at each location. Participants who are able to find all caches are rewarded with a geocoin designed specifically for the Geo Trail.
