Garmin has been quite busy towards the end of 2012, specifically with their marine product line. Along with the addition of the newly updated chartplotters and fishfinders, Garmin just announced the release of the BlueChart Mobile app. Launching them into the modernization of social technology, the app is designed to help create the best plan for nautical trips. The features will include interactive viewing of the BlueChart g2 maps, complementing Garmin's line of chartplotters. This piece will help to identify contours, port plans, restricted zones and much more. The app is ideal for plotting out your entire trip from home then easily transfers your chart to a compatible Garmin chartplotter. Socially, you can connect with ActiveCaptain to receive tips and information about areas from other users. Measure distance between points, follow your location and receive weather and tide information by loading the app on a tablet and take it with you on your trip. The app is an excellent tool to help you familiarize yourself with areas and routes before you even start your voyage. The BlueChart Mobile app is free and available in the Apple App Store. It is only currently available for iOS. For more information on features and compatibility, please visit Garmin's site.
