If you own a Garmin handheld GPS device, you will need mapping for your backcountry navigation.

Both the Garmin topo maps and Backroad GPS maps are very useful, but Backroad maps are a bit more detailed than the Garmin maps. Although both map programs are adequate for most users, some may wish to spend a bit more and upgrade to the Backroads maps as an alternative.

The higher details in Backroads maps are useful if you need to:

•  Know wildlife management boundaries for anglers and hunters
• See logging and industry roads
• Search for detailed trail systems for ATV, snowmobiling and long distance trails
• View city and industrial roads along with defined hiking and motorized trails
• View point specific recreation locations
• Geo-reference backcountry points of interest & recreation features
• Map paddling routes including access points and portages
