Video Tutorial: Resetting a Garmin Nuvi
by Jesse James Sampson on December 7, 2012   1078 views    Email-A-Friend

Sometimes your GPS does not operate the way it should and performing a hard reset will fix the issue.

Before performing a reset, back up all user data if possible.

Here is a list of some of the problems the Reset may fix.

  • GPS will not track satellites.
  • GPS will not communicate with my Windows Computer.
  • GPS will not communicate with my Mac Computer.
  • GPS no longer takes the routes I want (could be a setting).
  • Volume will not change.
  • Can no longer see my street maps.
  • Can't find the pesky setting that was changed.
  • li>My traffic cable is not recognized by the unit.
  • Ecoroute HD is not connecting.
  • My Bluetooth in the GPS will no longer connect to my phone.

After completing the reset, doing a firmware update will also help the function of your GPS unit.  Updating your firmware is easy and can be done using the free download from Garmin, WebUpdater.
