We took the new Garmin vent mount into the real world to test the the unconventional design. Great news -- it passed with flying colors! The soft rubberized grips hold firmly to the vent, while the 'foot' at the bottom keeps stress off of your vents and supports the unit's weight.
The wheel used to tighten or loosen the mount only spins with just the right amount of encouragement, meaning it won't come undone on its own over time. All in all, this is a vast improvement over previous vent mounts we've seen. This is the first vent mount we will endorse (and we know mounts!).
The best part for Garmin owners is that the socket on the back of any Nuvi cradle connects to the 17mm ball on the vent mount, which allows the unit to be rotated and tilted into the best viewing position. We highly recommend this!
