SPOT/GPS
Pros: spot system good Cons: canada maps terrible
The gps is OK but screen is small. The topo maps for Canada are nothing but a joke-very poor,

DELORME GPS
Cons: none
I have always used a garmin until now. I was interested in spot and decided to make the plunge and buy both as a package. Very happy with the GPS system so far. Great to be able to download topo maps to screen. Easy to use.
The spot receiver works great with the unit. It is very easy to set up and use. I can set it on the seat of my car and it still tracks. I really like the option of sending your own set of msgs when requesting help or just checking in. I purchased a 12 volt car adaptor for vehicle travelling.

OUTDOOR GPS
Pros: easy to use Cons: not easly to convert files to arcview files
The DeLorme Earth mate PN60W with Spot, is by far the most user friendly GPS unit that I have ever used. I am a big fan of Garmin, but this unit is right up there with them. I especially like the easy to use menu and the working relationship with the Spot Receiver. I would recommend this unit to any outdoor enthusiast that require the use of a GPS unit and would like to keep their family and friends informed of their activities by way of a short personalized and real time txt message. This message takes the guess work out of what type of assistance you may require or you can just let your family know that you are having a great time. Before using the Spot unit for real, practice with it so that you fully understand the limitations and capabilities of the units.

PN-60W WITH SPOT RECEIVER + TOPO NA 9 MAP PACKS
Pros: spot, geocaching friendly, energy effcient Cons: non-usb connector, unlighted buttons,
I was looking for an upgrade to my trusty Garmin 60Csx and I opted for this unit. What sold it to me was the SPOT locator and the possibility to send personnelized OK, Help messages to any group of contacts. I also love the idea that I can login any geocaches from the field even outside cell coverage. I'm not a Facebook or Twitter user, but if it manages as well as the geocaching connection it's doing a bang-up job. Since I live in Eastern Canada (Qc) and Garmin's CityNavigator and TopoCanada v4 coverage is really good, I'm not to impressed by the Map packs available through Delorme Topo North America 9 or Delorme's library. We're told that it should be getting better with time. The maps are beautifully rendered but I still use my 60Csx for routing and for any POI's when on the road. The PN-60W has a long way to go to be as fast as the 60Csx for finding POI's, routing and finding adresses. It took half an hour for a rerouting calculation with the PN-60W when it tooks seconds for the 60 Csx. On a another note, there is no better GPS when it comes to power management, this baby can run for days thanks to it's self adjusting ambient backlighted screen. My first big let down the power cable is a special connector that slides in the back of the unit. Don't get me wrong, it looks very rugged and wont come off like those mini-usb connector you find on cell phones, digital cameras and other GPS (garmin). But the fact that it isn't a mini-USB power cable makes it annoying to carry that specific cable everywhere. With my 60CSX I could always really on a extra mini-USB cable lying in the office. Not with this GPS, you need to buy extras. The biggest mistake with this GPS is the fact that the buttons aren't backlited. It has a great screen at night but what can you do if you don't know where the buttons are ?! Hope the fix that with the next generetion. Despite those flaws, the SPOT integration makes it the GPS for outdoor enthousiast who want to keep in contact with their loved ones. Extreme goecachers are also going to love the instant cache login from anywhere on the globe. I highly recommend this product through GPSCity.

PICK ONE UP!
Works great- they should have integrated SPOT to a GPS ages ago! As a GPS only it does not stand out above comparable models on the market but as a complete package it would be the one to own.

PN-60W WITH SPOT
Pros: full or greater features than other gpss for mtns. Cons: no reasonably priced maps for europe or austrailia
I've had a lot of experience with outdoor mapping GPS units, mostly Garmins Colorado and Oregon. I can't say that my new PN-60w is better but I can say it is fully comparable. I did have issues with Oregon's touch sreen in wet and cold outdoor enviroments so I would say that technology is best left to iphones and car units. The Delorme unit ships with 100k topo maps for all of US and Canada so that will save you $150.
As for Spot, the Spot Communicator is the best of the Spot line due to its free form messaging. For a true SOS situation you can't beat the 2 way capability of a sat phone, but that comes at 3 times the unit cost and 5 times the monthly service cost ( note all Spots are one way only, but proven solid in reliability of trasmission). And you still would neeed a GPS to carry. And you couldn't post unobtrusive tracking and position updates to contacts emails or phones without actually phoning them outright. The type of PN 60w enabled Spot capability is just what I need to feel secure in the mountains.

SOLID PROFORMING GPS, UNIQUE SYNERGY WITH SPOT
Pros: rugged competitor to garmin/magellan with spot too
I've had the units for over a month now including a kayak and mountain outing. GPS acquisition and hold in canyons and dense forest as good as my old Garmin 60csx standby. Unit ships with Delorme Topo maps (on loadable DVDs) for all 50 states and 10 provinces and 3 territories. It would take two 32 Gb SD cards to permanently load all the above, otherwise preload area before trip. No unlock codes for maps. Gov't sat photos, topos (1:24000 US, 1:50000 CAN), and marine maps (Navionic's too) are available for yearly subscription of $30/yr. Delorme's topos are quite good however. Included topo map software includes all highway and street data as well as a lot of backroads and trails. The unit can do street routing but like all outdoor oriented units is way clunky for this say compared to my nuvi.
Both the 60w GPS unit and especially the trip planning PC version of the Delorme topo maps (Topo9) are rich in function and capability and there is some learning curve involved. Compared the Garmins, the screen is slightly smaller but resolution and readability seem greater. Good battery life. Some minor software glitches remain to be fixed in the 60w model with a promised firmware update, such as internal clock freeze when unit shut off and restarting routing with power on.
After a long series of Garmin receivers, my new 60w has become my go to outdoor and caching unit. I've owned the Spot 1 for two years now and it has since went onto Craigslist. Taking the SOS function for starters there is a huge amount of critical information that can be tramsmitted in the 40 character custom message that is not available with the first 2 Spot models. Feel good I'm OK updates can be embellished with either a 40 character custom message for 50 cents ( I'm OK but will be 4 hours late") or one the free 14 user defined canned messages. With the Spot 1, the help function was nearly useless and could only worry friends and family. Like: "I didn't call 911 so I must be somewhat OK, guess my situation and what resources might help". The Spot communicator in the package seems to be more rock solid in its transmissions than even the Spot 1. In 30 message send tests all 30 have got through on first send attempt.
