GEOCACHING IN THE SNOW

While on my way to Timmins, Ontario I thought I would stop in Geraldton for a little stretch break/geocaching. I had checked out some possible caches a few days before and come up with this one, Broken Buffalo Cache. Now you must remember geocaching in the winter in Northwestern Ontario can be a bit of a challenge, especially for caches that are not up off the ground. Any way I followed a road just south of the town until I was within 165 meters of the cache. I put on my winter boots, climbed over the snow bank and started my adventure. It wasn’t too bad for the first ten meters but the 3 ft deep snow started to make it a bit difficult. After about 60 meters I thought of turning around, the trail I made looked a lot easier than the deep snow ahead, but I ventured forward and after a few minutes was getting within 6 meters of the cache. I looked around for possible places for a cache to be hidden in but only seen a couple of trees. I proceeded to search the deep snow around the trees and voila I actually stepped on the bucket. I dug it out of the snow retrieved a Polar Adventurer travel bug out of the cache and when I went to put something back I realized that I forgot to bring something in with me. I knew I did not want to go all the way back to the car so I emptied my pocket of change and put that in the cache even though it wasn’t much. After signing the book and putting the cache back I thought I lucked out and found a snow machine trail back unfortunately it only went half way back so I trudged through another 80 meters of untouched snow to get back to the car. Needless to say my heart was going a hundred miles an hour when I arrived at the car and my boots were filled with snow, but what the heck another successful find.
