WORKS WELL
Pros: accurate guidance Cons: very bad italian pronunciation
Worked well, once the GPS unit figured out where we were no longer in Canada. Getting that first reading took days. Not the maps fault.

DISAPPOINTING ITALY MAPS
Pros: none Cons: see above
I was very disappointed with this product. It took an inordinate amount of time for the Garmin to find satellites and when it finally did, the directions were inconsistent, contradictory or incorrect. I was traveling with someone who had a similar product from Tom Tom and it worked far better than this one. I have always loved my Garmin, but the Italy maps were a major disappointment.

ITALY CARD
Cons: gets lost very easily
OK in general...much recalculating whenever there is construction. we had to have been seasoned Europe travelers to disregard instructions often. In open spaces or on autostrada ok

SAVE GAS AND TIME: BUY YOURSELF A GOOD ROADMAP
Cons: very inaccurate, woefully out of date, no refund
I returned from a trip to Greece about one week ago and I found Garmin's Greece mapping software to be less than worthless but rather a penalty. My wife and I were initially confident we had the Garmin with us but it quickly became apparent in the Peloponnese (and later in Crete) that the appliance (Nuvi 205w) and software could not be relied on. The Garmin led us around in circles along the small, circuitous roads of rural Greece. Sometimes it would get us to our destination but only after we found out later by asking the locals that we wasted a lot of time and mileage in locating our target. Do yourself a big favor and buy a good Greece roadmap and ask the locals if you are headed in the right direction. After wasted gas and time we just put the Garmin in the glove compartment, followed the street signs, and asked people if we were going in the right direction.
Garmin refused to offer a refund in spite of my lengthy explanations stating that they have a non-refund policy for maps. Fair enough if it was the user's fault but I used a Garmin Street Pilot III in the U.S. for ten years and loved using it -- this Nuvi 205w in conjunction with the Greece mapping was a total disaster even for an experienced GPS user like myself.
One concrete example of the ineffectiveness of the Greece software and Garmin's LAME explanation is when we routed our Garmin for Athens upon leaving Sparta in the Peloponnese. I chose the 'City' option to map our trip -- you can't get much more vanilla than Sparta to Athens. I lost count of the number of times the appliance directed us to exit from the National Highway which connects the two cities. So the Nuvi didn't even recognize one of the few major highways in the Peloponnese!!! When I asked Garmin about this they told me it was necessary to input my 'preference for highways' in the GPS. Apparently Garmin is admitting that the default setting wants to lead you along old back roads to your destination!
The fact is, however, the Nuvi NEVER recognized the National Highway connecting the two cities. I asked Garmin when the latest update occurred and they said it was fairly recently. Asking Greeks in Athens, however, I found out the National Highway was completed sometime before 2004 for the Athens Olympic Games. Who is fooling who? Where is your integrity Garmin!!!???? You are like a bakery trying to sell week old bread as fresh.

HANDY
Pros: great to see what is where and what to do Cons: not all the smaller shops and such displayed
This chip was great! We were on a Mediterranean, mostly Italy and Greece. With this in my trust GPS we found our way around in all the ports very easily. Not though that a lot of the smaller shops and eateries was not displayed on the maps.
Great to see if that Taxi is taking you where you want to go or not... LOL

CITY NAVIGATOR EUROPE NT ITALY AND GREECE CARD
Cons: very slow to draw maps.
I am very disappointed in this card. I have an Oregon 200 and Garmin Vista HCX. This card is very very slow to draw maps on the screen when you move locations either with your finger on the screen or with the toggle on the HCX. I also found that in coastal areas I was often walking on water and not land when I was using it for geocaching. In fact in one case I was on an island that didn't even exist on the map yet it had a road I was walking on. I understood this was to be the most up to date card there was. I am not sure if other cards are like this buy I have used Mapsource to put Maps on cards and never had this problem This card was from Garmin to. I thought it would have been as good quality as if I had the disc and transferred the maps. I also found the accurcey of the maps not great.

SEEMS UNAWARE OF ONE-WAY STREETS!
Pros: will get you there, albiet with some confusion Cons: wrongly identifies direction of one-way streets
It was great in getting us from city-to-city, but our Nuvi had problems navigating in-city, particularly in the presence of tall buildings. Nuvi directed us the wrong direction down one-way streets more than once, to the anger of some Italian drivers! Their one-way streets were marked with an arrow on the pavement which appeared to be pointed in the correct direction of travel, but the arrows are WRONG! Also, the Nuvi doesn't redraw fast enough to help select the correct lanes after exiting the Autostrade pay tolls in cases where there are multiple exit lanes tied together. Map redraws in the presence of tall buildings was painfully slow, and in Naples, Nuvi had us driving in circles trying to get out! In one instance, Nuvi failed to redraw quick enough to help choose the correct pay toll exit, and cost us an extra 2 Euro by taking us back through the same toll twice! Near Pisa, it took us about 20 miles out of the way to get to our destination by failing to point out an exit we were supposed to take. You can't really depend on road signs in Italy. We were directed (by a sign) to follow non-existant signs when trying to find the caldera of Mt. Vesuvius! If not for Nuvi, we would have been hopelessly lost! On A4, there is new construction that appears to be two or more years old, and the mapping showed us driving out in a field! Amazingly, Nuvi did not lose signal in tunnels along the Autostrade! It's far from perfect, but without it, we would have been unable to enjoy our trip to Italy.

CITY NAVIGATOR ITALY AND GREECE
Cons: accuracy
I used the navigator for Milan, Sienna, Tuscany area while driving but not in Greece. The nuvi 250W I have could not get signals from satellites very often and therefore could not get the maps on the card. I found my iPhone was easier to use and more accurate than the nuvi 250W. Wven when I could get the satellites the accuracy was not good enought to walk around Milan or Sienna.

ITALY MAPS
Pros: it was considerably easier than trying to use maps Cons: accuracy was questionable aound rome.
We found it was excellent outside of Rome. However, during our trip both leaving and returning to Rome, we found it to be extremely slow responding where we would pass the turnoff before Garmin realized we had passed. As well, there were considerable errors, especially around the Rome airport, where Garmin was spinning us around in circles.

GARMIN MICROSD CITY NAVIGATOR EUROPE NT ITALY AND
Road and street information was usually correct and helpful, but the Garmin device together with the Italy SD card was usually several blocks behind where we were actually driving, so we often missed turns the device was often announcing the need to turn when we'd already gone by a needed street the device did NOT know several little streets critical to finding our B&B addresses in at least 8 of the 18 cities we visited during our 3000 kilometer drive. For major highways and known roads, it was fine, but the Garmin went completely nuts in Perrugia, Italy, so we together with the card were completely lost one night -- useless to us at that terrifying moment. Nevertheless, I would NOT have wanted to make the 3000 KM without my Garmin and the Italy SD card.

GPS SOFTWARE REVIEW FOR ITALY
This software works well as log as there are no constructions, one way streets or detours encountered. In the opposite case, it is very difficult to recover, the system tends to take one on really wild chases using obscure side roads. It also seems that the software has not been updated for some considerable time and does not cover many roads in long term use. It should be easier to select alternative routes to the one determined by the system on the first try.
