MAC USERS BEWARE
Pros: none the map doesn't load correctly Cons: map unusable without 4 hrs phone time with garmin
The MapInstall app which is necessary to load this product onto the GPS SD card was faulty--an unaddressed "glitch" according to the Helper at Garmin. MapInstall loads the map, but it is then unrecognized by the GPS Nuvi 1390 unless it is renamed to: gmappsupp.img In my experience Garmin has always been tardy in making its products friendly to a Mac--an unacceptable stance in this day and age. Buy the CN North American on an SD card and save yourself some headaches.

GETTIN AROUND...
Pros: excellent performance, Cons: garmin should provide an initial copy with product
Product seems to perform as planned, even located an address where my Great great grandfather owned a bar in 1893. Don't know if it's still a bar, but interesting none the less.

GETS ME WHERE I NEED TO GO
Pros: easy to use, accurate route calculation Cons: unlocks on only 1 device
Used with a Garmin Edge 800 cycling computer. Route calculation is very good but not perfect and depends on how you have your unit set up to calculate routes. If you have a general idea of where you're going, it will do the job nicely.
One minor complaint is the Points of Interest are out of date. Garmin seems to only add new POIs but does not delete ones that are gone. I also noticed it was missing some POIs of well established businesses in my area.
I chose the DVD over the SD card version for the ability to plan routes on my computer without the need for internet access. At the time of purchase I did not plan to use this on more than one device so the DVD was the better personal choice.
Since my primary use is cycling, I only load maps onto the SD card for the area I am in. It would be nice if Garmin allowed you to unlock and install the maps onto 2 devices like they do with the Bluecharts or at least give you a 2nd unlock key at a discount.
I was looking at purchasing an Oregon 450 and it's somewhat annoying that I will have to pay full price if I want to install City Navigator on a 2nd unit. Garmin forces you to make the choice between seeing the maps on your computer with the DVD or being able to use the maps on multiple devices with the preloaded SD card.
Software installation was easy and offers you a choice to update maps during installation (recommended) and transferring maps using the Mapinstall program was a snap. City Navigator works great with both Basecamp and Mapsource. I have been using Garmin products for a long time and was comfortable with Mapsource but after watching the Basecamp training videos, I transitioned over.
A little off subject but worth mentioning to Edge users is when planning routes using Garmin Connect and Basecamp you have to know the difference between routes and courses, waypoints and coursepoints and the only way to add coursepoints that I know of is with the Garmin Training Center software. If you set a waypoint along your route or course you don't see it in the activity when you upload to Garmin Connect
For automotive use City Navigator is great but for fitness users you will find yourself using a combination of Basecamp, Training Center, Mapsource, Google Earth, Mapinstall and Garmin Connect to get your routes, tracks, activities, waypoints, coursepoints and courses converted into different file formats to view all your data. You will also need to download the webupdater utility to update the software on your device. Garmin needs to come up with a better interface so you don't have to use several different pieces of software to use their Edge products.
Garmin tech support is very good and based in the US. There is also tons of information in the Garmin forums and on the web but like many Garmin products the supplied user manuals are not very good.

WORTH EVERY PENNY
Pros: has all the roads, even gravel roads ++++
Third time I deal with GPSCITY, and will deal with them again when needed. The software is very complete and up to date. Coupled with the new basecamp software it is a blast to plan out our routes and then go out and ride our motorcycles for 700-800km days without getting lost once. The software knows when the streets are oneway direction only and will plan a route to get to you desired position. We are still learning to use it, but already like it alot. I would recommend it to all.

GARMIN CITY NAVIGATOR NORTH AMERICA
Pros: install maps on sd card Cons: initial install was a bit confusing
Had to get help from support with install - 2 map files were loaded and that confused BaseCamp. Once install issues were resolved, I could copy maps to my Edge 810 micro SD card without problems.

GREAT MAP BUT CD DID NOT WORK
Pros: great tech support/great map graphics Cons: cd/dvd was a dud.
I was not pleased with this item out-of-the-box. I rated it "Poor" because the CD/DVD did not work out of the box. I rated "Yes" on recommend buying because once it did work it is a great map! Cons: The CD/DVD did not work. When I loaded the DVD and was asked to enter the product code-it said that code was inaccurate. I called GPSCity who had been very helpful in the past(while purchasing)and for this problem they sent me to Garmin for the trouble-shooting and item replacement. Which is probably their policy and I was fine working with Garmin Tech's- they are usually really great! Garmin helped me to download the City Nav maps from their online source. But the first Garmin Tech to help me didn't finish by explaining to me to open the download from my computer and load to GPS unit. She had expained that it would automatically do this if my GPS was plugged in, but it did not. The 2nd Garmin Tech was very knowledgable and fixed the problem. (We opened it from my computer and downloaded to my GPS) But the bottomline was that I just wanted the CD/DVD to work out of the box. I realize that there was not any wrongdoing on GPSCity.com part. Apparently the BRAND NEW CityNAV map I had ordered (Beg-Dec2011) had been updated by the time I had opened the product on Christmas day?? So be careful to make sure you know exactly what version you have before you download from internet, if your CD doesn't work. After the map has downloaded to your computer/GPS, the updates can be downloaded directly to the Garmin GPS from the internet by plugging in your GPS to the computer. I still wanted a good working hard copy-that's what I paid for, right? I am working with Garmin to get a brand new CD/DVR CityNAV so that I have something to keep in my CD/DVD file. They have ask me to scan the receipt and send them a copy. A lot of work to get a CD/DVD map replaced...Not all CD/DVD's are perfect, I guess. PROs: The map itself....perfection....it works very nicely in my Montana 650t-GPS. I am very happy with the graphics. My GPS highlights the directions but also I can see other roads all around the area I am in. So if there is a traffic accident in front of me I can easily re-route just by looking at the map. The text for turn-by-turn direction is very large at first at the top of the map,(don't need my glasses) but if you will be on that road for a long time the text becomes smaller so you can see more map. Then the text enlarges when you are getting close to the turn. Very cool. The graphics are great and I am all in all very pleased with the mapping and directions. New England has so many little roads meandering about that any GPS is going to get confused sometimes in "them there parts". You just have to program the settings correctly. I also have the auto mount with speaker, so there are voice directions that name the street, too. The only bah-humbug is the speaker is very soft so you can't here it over your radio or when on a major highway.(I own a truck) I am hoping there is a speaker volume on my GPS unit that allows for more volume. But I just haven't had time to explore this option yet.

EXCELLENT BUY!
Pros: has great coverage for us and canada Cons: you need extra memory on etrex to load all maps
This is an excellent addition for my Garmin Etrex Legend HCX. Along with the topographic maps which came with my gps this item is the best accessory for the unit. It gives me the ability to find my way to the places where i want to geocache by road. It is great for travelling as i can just take my Etrex with me instead of having to take my nuvi. The maps are very accurate and having the entire city navigator for north america means i don't have to worry whether i'm travelling in the US or Canada, even Mexico. It's a great buy at this price and an essential companion map for any Compatible Garmin GPS.

ONE PROBLEM THAT MAKES ME CRAZY....
Pros: detailed and complete Cons: a couple of annoying quirks which never get fixed.
I would have given City Navigator 5 stars except for one problem which makes me crazy: there's no way to force the software to choose freeways or expressways. I have the most recent edition on a GPSmap62s, a slightly older edition installed on a Zumo 660, and a much older (and never updated) edition (which came pre-loaded) on an old Nuvi 250 and all three of them seem to ignore a major highway located right near me. It doesn't matter if I set the navigation option to "shortest distance" or "fastest time", I am always routed through the city rather than onto the highway. I wish there was a setup option for forcing the use of highways/freeways/expressways (whatever you want to call them) whenever the opportunity arises. All three of my Garmin units ignore the Don Valley Parkway in Toronto as though it didn't exist. Each time I just pull onto the highway and then watch as the unit re-calculates and the "arrival time" drops by anywhere up to ten minutes.
There's one other thing: the software is obsessed with the collector lanes! Again, all three units are always telling me to get into the collector lanes when there's no need to leave the express lanes. Then when the collector lanes end, the unit tells me to get back on the main part of the highway. It did it to me again tonight. I just ignore it, but it's annoying.

WORKS WELL ON MONTANA
Installed on my new Montana 600 without a problem. Works well and easy to read. Love the versatility of the Montana and available software it is capable of holding. City Navigator helps make this unit exceptional!

MAPS GOOD - UPDATE PROCESS A PAIN
Garmin ships last release CD's until they clear inventory, but give an update (Online) so while this was labelled '2012' it was really a '2011' when it arrived. This is OK, but the upgrade process is fairly convoluted: First install Garmin updater, oops, can't do that 'cause it needs new .NET framework, now go back to Garmin, then GPS has a firmware update so do that, then upgrader again, then finally update the maps which appears to download pretty much the whole DVD. So, from opening DVD package to actually having maps about 2 hours of clock time. Don't try this just before a trip....
