City Navigator North America NT 2008 for the Mac allows you to download and unlock detailed street maps and points of interest from the DVD to a Mac computer. After the data is downloaded, you can transfer it to your compatible Garmin GPS device using the new MapInstall program for the Mac. The DVD includes premium maps that contain full coverage of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico including metropolitan and rural areas, with turn restrictions, roundabout guidance, speed categories, and other navigation features for highways, interstates, business and residential roads. It also contains nearly six million points of interest to help you find food and drink, lodging, attractions, entertainment, shopping, emergency services, post offices, gas stations and more.
This product is for Garmin NT compatible units only, and not for updating pre-loaded units.
Map Transfer from Mac to Garmin GPS
The Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2008 for the Mac allows you to transfer mapping data to your compatible Garmin GPS unit. Download the map detail from the DVD to your Mac, then transfer mapping data to your connected Garmin GPS. It's important to note the following:
- You can only transfer the mapping data to a Garmin NT compatible unit,
- You will require the MapInstall program for the Mac to transfer the mapping data to your GPS,
- You can create waypoints, routes and tracks on the Mac with the Garmin City Navigator but you will require the Garmin Bobcat program to transfer them to or from your Garmin GPS.
Garmin and Mac Programs
Garmin is actively working on creating software for the Mac that allows a seamless integration with Garmin GPS units. Currently, there are a few different programs available (some in beta) that will enable routes, tracks, waypoints and POI transfer and mapping with the Garmin City Navigator North America DVD for the Mac.
