COLORADO 400I
Pros: none Cons: pice of crap don't buy one
This is the biggest piece of crap that I have purchased from Garmin. Trouble with the screen freezing at first then it would not boot up, and finally it now will not accept the cable for computer connection or the charger cable

PIECE OF CRAP !!
Pros: none Cons: biggest waste of money
Purchased this unit. The wheel fell off during my first day rendering it useless. Earlier in the day the unit froze up and I could not backtrack. Garmin replaced the unit but now the topo maps do not work and the unit still freezes up. This unit is a piece of crap.

BEST USE INDOORS ONLY
Pros: looks cool and that's it! Cons: thumbwheel falls off, dark screen, battery burner
Some of the boys I work with (military ones) bought some of these and they aren't too pleased with this unit. It has a BIG screen indeed, but that feature alone chews batteries in no time. Plus, you just can't see anything from it in broad day light. The screen is dark compared to some other units we've owned and tested in the field.
And just so you all know, if you ever clip the thumb wheel out of its socket and you get any grit, sand, water or anything else in there, your GPS is toast!! We've seen it twice already. The poorly design allows you to pop the thumb wheel way too easy (if you own one, try it and you'll see), allowing anything contaminants to enter the GPS and turning it into a very cool expensive door stopper or a rear view mirror bling-bling.
If you want the best of the best from Garmin, for outdoor use, in any terrain and weather, with the best features and military worthy, go with the GPSMAP 60Cx or 60CSx.
You won't be disappointed!

Easy to use, solid feel, great reception. Lake maps lack detail and marina info. City Navigator Maps have more information on Marinas. Screen is too dark to see in broad daylight and the Backlight doesn't improve this. When held at a perfect angle it is clear but when you pass under the shade of your boats bimini top the screen appears blank. Garmin has released updated software for the backlight, but I can not tell any improvement. My old Vista C functions much better in direct sunlight. The Colorado is very limited in customizable functions, unlike the eTrex family that are highly customizable. I wish I had purchased a Vista Hcx with the lake and city maps in place of the Colorado 400i.
