Developed in response to market demands for greater GPS accuracy, GARMIN's DGPS-53 receiver corrects for Selective Availability (SA) (in the event that this is ever recommissioned by the U.S. Government) and atmospheric error, enabling an accuracy of 1-5 meters.
Packaged in a low-profile, waterproof housing, the DGPS 53 combines our powerful 12-channel GPS receiver and antenna with an auto-tuning, differential beacon receiver. NMEA and RS-232 compatible, the DGPS 53 is the perfect solution for integration with chart plotters and radar, as well as personal computers. Absolutely no grounding is required.
Traditional ''E-field'' whip-style antennas can be extremely difficult to ground properly. The DGPS 53 receiver/antenna combination uses an internal ''H-field'' antenna that guarantees simple installation. GARMIN's DGPS 53 differential GPS receiver reduces the effects of ionospheric variations, improving the accuracy of the GPS unit to approximately 1-5 meters. The waterproof DGPS 53 mounts to a standard 1-inch, 14 threads-per-inch mount which can be easily install to your vessel.
The DGPS 53 uses the differential GPS corrections broadcast by the U.S. Coast Guard and the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities' beacons, which are supplied free of charge to mariners. These signals provide satellite status and pseudo-range information, in addition to the location and status of the beacon transmitter. The DGPS 53 then decodes this information for use by a GARMIN GPS receiver, providing the improved repeatability and accuracy required for commercial applications and precision navigation. |
