BIG IMPROVEMENT OVER FACTORY LACK OF GAUGES
Pros: everything Cons: none
I purchased this product more out of curiosity to see the information that would be provided in its verious functions. The first thing I got to was the opportunity to input information about my vehicle which is a 2008 Dodge Sprinter with the 3.0 turbo Diesel engine. Since the vehicle is 3/4 ton rated Goverment fuel economy ratings are not required so I had to guess a little based on my own experience with this van. I had only had it for several months so I do not really have a long record of my mpg. So far I'm pleased with what I'm seeing with the readings so it is helping to learn to drive as fuel efficiently as possible. I have also been 10- 4:30pleased as well with the addition of being able to see gauges such as coolant temperature, manifold pressure etc. all in all I am pleased with the product and would highly recommend it. By the way I viewing it on my Kenwood Excelon DNX 9980 HD.

KNOW YOUR ENGINE BETTER...
Pros: low cost way to read/reset engine codes. simple. Cons: none.
Works as promised.
It could provide more/better ongoing tracking of vehicle performance and mileage, but this is more a GPS unit issue, not the ecoroutehd.
Very handy for reading and resetting engine error codes.
Menus are not intuitive or forgiving. Entering gas purchase information incorrectly messes up reports and can't be fixed without a complete reset. (again, a GPS unit issue?)
Once the unit thought I switched cars (I hand't) and reset all statistics to 0 on its own. This hasn't recurred.

NEAT FOR TRACKING FUEL USAGE
Pros: fuel usage data, reset engine light codes Cons: large module to hook to obd2 port
I've been using this product for a few weeks. I use the ecoroute features of the GPS to help me find the most fuel efficient way to drive around town. I've discovered that by cutting back my highway speeds by a few MPH I gain about 25 to 30 miles on the tank. It also gives data like engine output %, air intake temp, vacuum pressure, timing advance, gas pedal %, battery voltage and few other stats.

NICE GADGET, BUT STOPPED WORKING
Pros: useful engine data, nice design, easy install Cons: unreliable
It's a nice accessory. I bought it to go with my new nuvi 2595LMT. It installed easily after a couple of tries and performed as advertized. The extra gauges were nice, the "eco Challenge" entertaining, and the instantaneous MPG could be displayed on the GPS face. BUT ... it stopped working after 2-1/2 weeks, so I had to return it. I'd rate it 4 or 5 if it kept working.

CYNICAL & SKEPTICAL - PROVEN WRONG
"Gonna save you gas money" - sure it will. "pay for itself" - yeah right, all I needed was a tach cuz my truck doesn't have one. I spend $1100 / week in fuel as a pilot car driving Northern BC & AB. Just bought the Garmin 1490. Paid $100 all in for ecoRoute HD. Saw my fuel consumption in real-time and 2 things happened. STOPPED using cruise control and STARTED driving in the sweet spot. Immediately clipped 2L/100 off my usual consumption. At 5900 kms per week and at $1.10 Litre savings are apparent.
Last week fuel bill was $939 and week before was $1121. Route and mileage was exactly the same. I can gain another 10% distance on each tank. Paid for itself in one week and can't wait to see Check Engine when it happens.
I was WRONG. LOL

WORKS OK BUT THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES.
Pros: works well with garmin gpss. Cons: short, stiff cable, price.
The ecoRoute HD cable does what it's supposed to, it will connect to my GPS and works properly there. It doesn't always connect to my Android phone or tablet though and from time to time the.
A generic bluetooth code reader works better with my Android devices but it's not compatible with the Garmin GPS so to avoid a clutter of electronic devices on the dash, I went with this unit.
The cable on this is rather short and stiff and can make mounting it difficult for temporary use. I ordered an OBD2 extension cable to get around this problem.

GARMIN ECOROUTE HDCABLE MODEL:010-1138-10
Pros: very cool! Cons: none
Device works perfectly! Quickly connects to your autos OBDII port then communicates as a Blue-tooth device to your Garmin GPS unit. Mine is a nuvi 3790LMT. While the photos appear with five gages, they can be individually modified to any of the dozens of engine parameters available. It’s like having your own real-time digital engine monitoring display similar to what you might expect from a racing team. Very cool indeed! GPSCity.com was the lowest price and the quickest delivery over the rest.

ECOROUTE
Pros: save money on fuel able to monitor error codes Cons: sometimes requires a gps setup to work.
The information that the EcoRoute supplies is great. I use the instrument display to monitor my driving and have increased fuel efficiency. Plus it's fun to see what the engine is doing (timing, fuel temp, water temp, etc). I do wish it would read more computer functions. It is convenient to monitor engine error codes (check engine light) without going to the dealer and paying up to $100.00 for them to read the computer . Sometimes it will not connect to gps. The manual said to reset device, sometimes this does not work but resetting gps does work. You will not lose data in gps.

THE GARMIN ECOROUTE HD WORLDWIDE CABLE
Pros: i have found a whole lot of new tools Cons: there are so many features finding them is hard
This addition to my Garmin's "Eco" features has a lot of interesting new information. I have found a whole lot of new tools for checking on the performance of my car like fuel efficiency, the time, distance and cost of a trip and a minute by minute log of the fuel efficiency while driving. Potentially the most valuable feature will be the diagnostics that are available when the "check engine" alert shows on the dash. Happily I haven't' needed it yet but it could save time and money if I ever have to.

GREAT WHEN IT CONNECTS
Pros: everything but communications Cons: communications
The unit operates well and as it states in the sales material. However, it has a problem from time to time communicating with my Garmin GPS unit. It may drop out or it may not be able to connect at all even after I reset it. Next time I try, it may work fine. I find this interesting since Garmin can communicate very well with the satellites but has trouble talking between this unit and the Nuvi GPS about 2 feet away.

ECOROUTE HD
Pros: amount of info displayed Cons: bluetooth connection poor
Information displayed is as advertised. Bluetooth conection seems to be the only real weak point, very common to completely lose connection with ecoroute HD (averages probably once a day),requires a complete "set up" process each time to reconnect (ie.stop engine ,initilize etc).Quite a large time delay in info transfer means needles on gauges almost useless (jumps around so much to be unreadable), digital part of display OK.

Pros: very clean look to dongle Cons: not practical as a gauge
The dongle worked well enough. The issue is that I wanted to use the GPS unit to add a boost gauge to my vehicle. This issue is that the units screen does not have a high enough of a resolution to be used as a gauge. The needle movements were very choppy and the numbers were difficult to read.

FUN LITTLE ADD-ON GADGET !
Pros: fun and easy to install and operate Cons: gauge needles jump instead of smooth movement
Easy to install and paired right up to my Nuvi 1490T. The EchoRoute HD makes driving around town and on trips a lot more fun. It's interesting to see the mileage difference when using cruise control and AC. I drive a 2001 Ford F150 5.4L V8 and was getting about 14 mpg average before the HD so I'll be watching the display and my lead foot to see if I can get this toy to pay for itself! Even though the truck is a gas pig, I will be keeping it but looking for a Jetta TDi for most of my driving. Can't wait to see what the Jetta will get for mileage. The gauge cluster is cool but the needles jump around instead of a nice smooth movement like a real gauge (I dropped the rating to 4 stars for this reason) I hope Garmin can fix this with a software upgrade in the future. I have not had any engine codes yet so I can't say how well that part of the unit works. Great shopping experience with GPS City !! I highly recommend this thing for all "gadget addicts" like me.

WORKS AS EXPECTED
I have a Toyota Prius, and was irritated that the eco display lied when I was running on battery. I purchased a unit, plugged it in, and started my Nuvi 3790. The only question was if I had a hybrid. After saying yes, it found the unit and connected to the engine. It has worked reliably ever since. The only problem I had was stashing the unit under the dash. It has a short cord, and limited my options for attachment.
I am quite satisfied with the unit.

FUN ADDITION TO YOUR GPS
Pros: great to track fuel consumption. Cons: pricy for a toy, but it's a nice, useful toy.
While having the extra information is not a necessity, knowing real time fuel consumption helps modify wasteful driving behaviours. It was very easy to install and my Nuvi 1490 had no problem detecting the transmitter. It did take me a minute or two to find a good spot where the transmitter would not be in the way. Although most screens are easy to understand, I wish Garmin would include a detailled user manual. The one included only covers the installation, but I would have liked to see a complete "how to" use all the features rather than learning by trial and error. I don't know how useful the diagnostic tools will be. Time will tell.

Since I purchased it I have not been able to use it. the android application Mechanic is a crashing POS that never stays open long enough to make a connection. Like the product. Gives more information than I understand! Have not had a check engine light come on, so don't know how that feature works yet. PERFECT FOR MINI - OR ANY CAR WITH TOO FEW GAUGES!
Pros: more gauges than i need! engine codes too. Cons: short cord makes hard to stow under dash (minor)
Bought a MINI, and found it a problem not having the usual gauges... No coolant temp or battery in particular. I added the EcoRoute HD to my Garmin 3790LMT and couldn't be happier!! I now have all the gauges I need including boost (manifold pressure), timing advance, coolant temp, battery voltage, intake air temp and others. It can display 5 gauges at a time. Connecting to the Garmin was a snap, and connects reliably on engine start. No codes have come up on the engine - I look forward (in a twisted sort of way) to seeing one...
No issues AT ALL with purchase or shipping - arrived FAST!

Pros: plugs in easy-works easy and correct with nuvi3790 Cons: none
The Garmin ecoRoute hd Cable works fantastic with my Nuvi 3790. It does all it says but the best part is that on my first 2 gas tanks I saved money on gas. I occationally watched the ECO rating on my driving and drove better. I gained about 13kms on first tank and 19kms on second tank. I saved approximately $8.00 in gas in the first 2 tanks. FASNTASTIC LITTLE ADD ON !!!
Pros: easy to use and loads of gauge options Cons: loses connection to gps when using a remote start
Installation was a breeze, had it connected to my Garmin 1490T in less than 5 minutes. Early versions of this unit didn't allow the instant fuel mileage reading to be shown on the home map screen, this has now been resolved. Only issue I've come across is having to re-establish the connection between the HD unit and my 1490 if I start my vehicle (Dodge Journey) remotely. I've contacted Farmin and am waiting for a response.

WORKS GREAT FOR ME
Pros: extra gauges trains you to be more fuel efficient Cons: it's interesting but it's not like you -need- it.
I'm using this with the Garmin 2460LMT.
I updated the firmware in both the 2460 and the ecoroute (Webupdater does it by sending a file to the GPS and then it sorts it out upon connect - not sure if it actually updates the firmware in the ecoroute or just the ecoroute portion of the GPS, though).
I used a Right-angle ODBII extension cable (about 2ft) to route the ecoRoute to my center console - just tucked it up under the plastic. It works fine and I've had no connection issues. My gauges show and the ecoroute software inside the GPS takes the live-data into account as it figures out what my leaf-rating is.
Now - I'm not so much in it for the leaf-rating. I do figure that the higher the ecoRoute (leaf) rating is that the less money I'm spending on fuel. That's my main concern. I've also noticed that it helps me be more aware of how I'm driving, in general as my brain thinks, "Come'on you stupid leaf! Get over 90!"
As for the engine gauges, they seem responsive. No problems there. I really didn't dig into the diagnostics as I haven't had any problems with my car.

Not sure if it is the GPS itself (Nuvi 1490T which has it's own issues) or the HD connector. Overall, I like it alot!

GREAT GADGET.
Pros: it's a garmin... great support! Cons: none
Ordered this thing one day and had it the next... love gpscity. I paired this with a Nuvi 3790LMT and a BlackBerry Curve, and I've used it on both my 2000 Toyota 4Runner and my '06 Camray. No negative issues... installation was as simple as simple can be, and it has been bullet-proof since installed. Does everything it claims and does it well. I've used it to diagnose and reset a "check engine" light already, and having real-time as well as historic vehicle information has changed my driving habits. This thing will pay for itself in no time.

GARMIN ECOROUTE HD CABLE
Pros: easy to install
Does what it claims to do. It is a good way to figure out how to squeeze the last bit of gas mileage out of your car. I had been getting 21-22 MPG out of my officially rated "gas guzzler". EPA rated 18 city - 21 highway. I am now getting a bit over 24 all around mix of city and open road. It will pay for itself by the end of the year.

WORKS ON MY FRONTIER
Pros: does what it's supposed to do. Cons: short cable.
I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier LE 4x4, and this unit works without issue. My GPS is a Garmin 2360LMT and it offers a lot of information, including instantaneous gas mileage to help my driving habits. The Garmin Android app for the EcoRoute HD has better features than the GUI of the GPS, but the Android app runs away with my Evo's CPU every time I run it. Bummer. But this module itself works as advertised.
The only complaint is what others report--the cable is short and restrictive. It would also be nice to have a right angle adapter.

NOT QUITE THERE YET
Pros: nice construction, compact Cons: loses link chronically. hassle to re-establish.
I have this plugged into a 2010 Ford F150 truck and a Garmin 1450 GPS. The ecoRoute adds interesting functionality but chronically loses its link with the truck. When I start the truck, I never know if the bluetooth link will be active or have to be re-established which then means stopping the truck and restarting the 'connection' process. It gets tiring quickly. The gauges are interesting but the engine load gauge (which is one of the main reasons I bought it as I tow a trailer) is hopelessly inaccurate - it reads 100% when I'm barely starting and have lots of throttle left. That may be Ford's problem though as the ecoRoute probably shows what the truck computer sends it. I now use the mass air flow sensor gauge for that purpose instead. Otherwise, the unit is an interesting toy if you can get past the hassle of re-establishing your link frequently.

DROPS CONNECTION
Pros: useful data, works as described when connected Cons: highly unstable, unreliable
Use it paired with a new Acer Metal MT android with Garmin Mechanic properly installed. Works well about 60% of the time, but drops connection frequently and requires a hard restart (unplugging and replugging) to get it to reconnect. As a result, it's not at all what I was hoping for. Provides useful data when it's working.

GARMIN ECOROUTE HD
Pros: very accurate, help changing driving habit. Cons: had to reset the gps after upgraded the firmware
I bought it to pair with nuvi 3790LMT, while the 3790LMT came with firmware 2.6 which does not support the ecoRoute HD, but once I upgdated with 4.1, it is supposed to be fully supported, however, even after talked with Garmin support, and tried all their suggestions, I just did not see the option when I try to pair it until during the weekend I resetted the GPS then everything started working. Seems to me once you updated the firmware, powering off was not enough (at least in my case), once it is working, every time you gas up, just enter the cost of gas you put in the car, it claculates the usage per trip every time you shut off the engine, with the cost of the trip, gas used, trip length, and the ecoRoute display from red leaf at 0 to yellow leaf (in the seventies) and green leaf (above 80), certainly help me changing my driving habit.

ECO ROUTE SHOWS THE WAY
Pros: fun gadget that reads check engine codes to boot. Cons: fairly large since obdii plug is poor spot.
This cable really opened up all the features of my 1390LMT. Having real time gas mileage and being able to see how much green house gas you are creating can be a bit of a bummer. It can also open your eyes to modifying your driving behavior and saving a few bucks. Was also neat to see all the readouts in real time of the engines sensors.

Pros: couldn't be any easier to use. Cons: pricey for what you get.
No problems working with a 3790T. Not all that useful for everyday navigation purposes in newer vehicles equipped with MPG readouts. I envision it will be worth the cost if/when the time comes for engine diagnostic needs.

USEFUL ADDITION
Pros: easy install, fun to use. Cons: occassionally loses connectivity
I found the ecoRoute HD simple to use and it can easily be mounted in a second vehicle. I'm using it in conjunction with the nuvi 1490 LMT. Basically plug it in and follow the intuitive menu.I found that I used the gauges readout to modify my driving for greater gas economy. Particularly the engine load and throttle position. One of the vehicles that I use it in is a performance tuned Mustang GT and I like being able to check for engine codes. I would like to be able to see other gauges than the default few provided.

PARTIAL INFO WITH VOLVO S60
Pros: guage info was good for eng temps and pressures Cons: still very buggy - too many resets
Unit installed fairly quickly and connected with my 1490T bluetooth without much problem. Never completed a full tank of gas without the unit thinking it was installed in a new vehicle and required initialization, all trip info was lost. Called Garmin and tried resetting Eco unit, GPS, and downloaded the latest software updates forom Garmin. Finally sent it back for exchange when it stopped reading the car's RPM in the GPS 'gauges' section. Rebuilt exchange unit had same issues. It now sleeps in my glovebox.

This Garmin addon device is excellent. It provides me with quite a bit of information I didn't have before (there is no trip computer in my vehicle) and allows my Garmin to accurately calculate mileage with a minimum of fuss. It was simple to install - although it was a bit bigger than I expected.

COMMUNICATION DROPOUT
Pros: like the guages and diagnostic code gathering. Cons: sudden dropouts and failure to connect at times.
I am having the same trouble that I have seen expressed on other reviews. It works fine for awhile and the other day while driving the message said something to the effect that it saw a new vehicle and do you want to setup. I had to reset the HD and with great effort I was able to reconnect. It took several resets and a lot of patience. We have this in a 2009 Camry Hybrid. The ECO number is usually quite low. The only time it is reasonable is when the gas engine is not running. The mileage calculator shows total miles driven rather than calculating per tank or cumulative. This causes the MPG to display very low and not at all accurate.

TYING IN TO OBDII
I went looking for the OBD II connector in my Mazda5. Lo and behold there was a 16 pin connector left side of the drivers knee! There's even a little recess or shelf there. The ecoRoute cable plugs directly into the connector and if you don't mind the fact that you can't see the green/blue led because of the way you have to orient it it works fine. The cable on the connector is seriously short probably designed to keep the smallest footprint for a majority of vehicles. Comes with cable ties and two sided tape. I tried orienting my unit so that I could see the led looking down after starting the car. Had to use the two way tape and I don't see it staying in place very long using this method. Anything I've tried to stick with two way tape in a vehicle never seems to stay in place very long.
It connects reliably and you get "some" useful information. I bought it with the purpose of getting to see any weird code that might be sent out by OBD II. For some strange reason the Garmin resets when you try to key in a new gas price and you loose your existing tally of individual trip information. I thought I could use it to keep track of mileage for my business but with these resets happening it's about useless in this regard. I don't think the rests are cause by the unit. It think it's something to do with the software in the Garmin how it's programmed to recognize a vehicle change. Talking to Garmin about it hasn't cleared up the circumstance around these resets and loss of existing data.
The software is very limited in what you can read off the connector.

MIXED FEELINGS
Pros: accurate feedback on real time engine parameters Cons: failure as an obd ii reader
The ecoRoute hd cable sould really not be advertised as a OBDII reader. My 'check engine' light was on, and I saw a clear screen on the linked 1390.An inexpensive reader showed me the trouble codes, so 0 points a far as the code reader goes. Calling customer support was no help, as they anse you with "the code is probably not listed in the data bank". FYI, the od was a simple "Coolant high temperature circuit fault". Not too impressive. On the flip side....the nerd in me was pleased to see the gauges for air/ oil/ engine load etc. I also was quite impressed with the fuel economy feedback after connection, as the same is based on speed only, prior to the connection of the cable. No problem onconnection at all. To the review that goes on about link issues....the manual explicitly states how one neds to save the device to GPS. Probaly male, because we men never bother with manuals. I would say value for money based on the price, but am disappointed with the 'advertised capability' as an OBDII reader.

ECOROUTE HD INTERFACE
Pros: good concept Cons: poor implemenation as described above.
It is a great idea that unfortunately has been poorly implemented. The OBD-II connector has no integral positive locking and there is no easy way to secure the HD in place and still have the OBD-II connector available for other purposes for example, emission inspections. Garmin uses a proprietary communication protocol which makes it difficult to share the OBD-II data with other devices. The analog gauges are terrible. There should be a way to choose formats that are optimum for specific data for example, a vertical progress block for temperatures The Bluetooth transmitter/receiver should comply with the type 1 standard rather than type 1.

Pros: very active. no problems Cons: won't allow you to save a log to your computer
I think this item is great and it works fine in my 2010 Silverado LT truck. I would give it a 5 if you could save the info to the computer from the GPS. Pros: great addition to any garmin gps Cons: none so far
After reading the reviews provided by GPS City I puchased the ecoroute hd cable. I am extremely pleased with both the service from GPS City (the item arrived within 48 hours) and the cable. It is a valuable addition to my Garmin while travelling and would recomend it to anyone considering one. Pros: ease of use, quick switch from gps to gauages. Cons: issue above
Installed and connected as documented, works well. In a month I have had one unexplained disconnection - ie, selected Extended speedo, didnt get ecoroute display, was prompted to connect it. It reconnected, but dont know why it dropped out. Despite being a metric country, I would prefer manifold pressure in psi or in/hg, not bar. Also Subaru send lots more data (25+ items)out the OBD-II port on their own protocol, but this unit seems to only see std OBD-II data, which is understandable.

Cons: doesn't work reliably
I have a nuvi2360LMT and the ecoRoute HD only works occasionally and intermittently. When it is not connected, the gps freezes up and will only show direction and speed (no map details at all). The only remedy is to unplug the ecoRoute HD and re-boot the gps. Garmin help desk told me the ecoRoute HD is really only in beta testing and "we haven't worked out all the bugs yet". GOOD PRODUCT
Pros: easy to setup Cons: only one car profile
The product works exactly as advertised. It was very easy to install and setup with my Honda CRV '09 and my Garmin 3790.I did used as a ODBC diagnostic tool for the check engine light that was on for my other car, a 2000 Civic. The only inconvenience was that I had to create a new car profile and it did lost all the data for the first one. If you use the bluetooth with your cell phone make sure that the GPS is first connected to the EcoHD and then your phone. So in my opinion you get a good tool fot the paid price. I would have give it a 5 star if it could store more than one car profiles.

I love how it tells me real time fuel consumption, I know that alot of cars show you real time fuel but as mine does not it is a great feature for me. being able to read engine codes is great also as we have a second car that is a 1998 and has had engine lights pop up and I was able to read and erase. WORKS GREAT WITH HELP FROM GARMIN SUPPORT
Pros: gives realtime engine information Cons: setup guide has some omisions in the instructions
I am using the HD ecoRoute with a nuvi3790 GPS although the box does not list the nuvi3790 as a compatible device. I called Garmin support and they confirmed they compatible. It is important to update the Garmin GPS to the latest software. What the instructions leaves out is you also have to load the "HD error code" amd "HD ecoRoute" software which are additional downloads. They can b found after updating the device software, then checking for additional downloads! There were two more issues with making the unit function. After connecting the unit to the vehicles OBD II Connector and seeing it blink 3 times, their instructions state to (1) Start the vehicle, ....(2)Turn on the GPS. (3) Bring the GPS device within 10 meters (33) feet of the ecoRoute device. (4) From the GPS "Tools" menu touch ecoRoute. (5) If necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to set up ecoRoute. They left out "if the instructions "HD Connection" does not automatically appear then touch the 3-bars at the top left corner of the GPS display the "HD Connection" will be displayed. Touch it and follow the instructions. The third issue was after completing the connection instructions an error message was displayed "Could not connect with the vehicle, turnoff the vehicle and try again." I found that when I turned off the vehicle (the GPS was not plugged into the 12 volt outlet) the GPS also started to shut down with the message the vehicle was turned off. I restarted the vehicle and touched the "Gauges" icon and all the vehicles functions were displayed therefore the HD ecoRoute was connected. So far it has worked perfectly. I had the help of Garmin support, so I hope that they will revise their instructions for clarity. The unit immediately connects with the vehicle after turning it off and restarting my 2010 Jeep Wrangler..

ECOROUTE HD
Pros: does what is states, potential money saver Cons: none so far
Ever get one of those pesky yellow engine lights while driving your chariot. Of course you take it right away to the dealership and for about $60.00, they tell you your gas cap was not securely fastened. This gadget tells you in real language what is going on. That alone gives one peace of mind. But being a nut case for trying to get better gasoline mileage, I love the real time feedback that I can use to adjust my terrible gas guzzling ways. And all on one screen with my GPS (1490). It paired easily and if you don't mind losing your old data, moves rather quickly between vehicles. It would be nice to be able to keep more than one vehicle's performance, but hey no biggy. It does as it states it does. Provides real time information for the motor enthusiast and gadget junkie (I am sadly the latter). Money well spent. "No codes" Ready for emission test...." Love it.

BEST
Pros: exactly as advertised
Installation took 1 minute, easy setup with GPS. I really love the gauges which gives me a lot more information that my dashboard can provide

VERY GOOD
Cons: screen with gauges somewhat darkish.could be light
Easy to install and use. The istructions are well documented. Certainly keeps one informed about the vehicles functions, especially fuel economy.

WORKS AS ADVERTISED
Pros: works as advertised Cons: only 8 gauges (prius 2008),weird fuel eco values
I'm a bit of an eco freak (I have a Prius) and got the nüvi 1490T because of the ECOroute feature. Once I had it, I found that feature to be a bit oh-hum. Then I discovered the ecoRouteHD cable, and was really glad I got an ecoRoute Garmin after all, for all it promised. The connection to the OBD-II connection held the potential of access to a lot of "under the hood" parameters.
Once I got it, I was a bit disappointed. In the Gauges screen, you can indeed select which parameter goes where, but on the Prius (2008), you have access to a grand total of 8 parameters: Speed (wow...), RPM, 12v gattery voltage, Coolant temperature, engine load, timing advance, Intake manifold pressure, and mass air flow. I was hoping for a bit more.
But I'm still glad I got it, I now have more confidence in the quantity of fuel used displayed at the end of a trip, and if I have a check engine light, I'll be able to easily see what it's about and reset it.
I am having an issue with the "fuel economy" ecoChallenge value being very low (below 50) when compared to not using the ecoRouteHD and the GPS uses only the speed (~70), but I suspect it is due to my hybrid vehicle. The fuel economy jumps to 99 when the internal combustion engine turns off, but when it runs, the value is too low in my opinion. Also, and this may be related, the other day, I turned off the car after just a few moments (less than a minute, forgot something in the house) and afterwards, the GPS detected a "new vehicle". I still have to contact Garmin support about that and the low ecoChallenge fuel economy values.

ECOROUTE HD
Pros: accurate fuel usage information, cel reset ability Cons: buggy connection at first, should be cheaper
When I first bought this for my Nuvi 1390T, it would occasionally drop it's connection to the GPS. When it worked I provided quite accurate fuel usage numbers (one tank used was 43.03L on fillup at the pump and the Unit reported 43.14L used, well within acceptable tolerances for sure. It also diagnosed a P0133 Code with is a slow responding O2 sensor.
The dropped connections became bothersome however and I was ready to return the unit. Last week I updated the software on my GPS with Webupdater and when I put it back in the car, it downloaded an update wirelessly to the EcoRouteHD. Since then the unit has never dropped the signal and has been rock solid.
Recommended for any one that is a bit nutty about keeping tabs on fuel economy or that is interested in some of the other readings available such as engine load or coolant temps. For some reason it doesn't have oil temp but that is probably because my car doesn't have an oil temp sensor.
It has been nice to see instant fuel economy and although I typically don't drive to save fuel, I was definitely able to use the information the unit provides to adjust my driving habits to get better fuel economy without having to slow down too much. EcoRouteHD does tend to favour flatter, more freeway oriented routes if you let it.

GOOD CONCEPT, BAD SOFTWARE ??
Pros: great/accurate data when it works Cons: freezes up the nuvi 1390t within 24 hours.
Wont't work for more than 24 hours with two seprate 1390 T units. Garmin has no answers.

NIFTY GARMIN GADGET
Pros: nothing else out there like it. Cons: it costs too much. $75-80 would be reasonable
It is possible to put the MPG on the map page, in the lower left corner of the screen. Measures gas mileage and calculates MPG and fuel costs.
I wish I could program the data fields on the Nvui as I can on my eTrex, I don't see why they don't let me do that. I would like to be able to put ANY values that it can read onto the map screen, for example intake air temp.
I wish that it calculated estimated range remaining, it does not do that. I like the fact that it logs data while your nuvi is shut off- though mine never is.
I am using it in a Toyota Yaris with a Garmin 1390T.
Overall the device works better than I expected once I got used to the controls.

COOL GADGET - BUT A BIT PRICEY
Pros: easy installation. delivers as promised Cons: bit pricey for what you get.
All in all does what was advertised. Was a little disappointed that more data fields were not available. Installation was very easy. Integration with EcoRoute how to determine since my 1490T seems to have been buggy (if I drive faster than 80km/h gave me a score of 0, no matter if I was on a highway) and ended up dying. It has been sent back for repair.
