GARMIN 800 BUGS
Pros: small, works well when it does actually work Cons: unreliable
I would hold off on buying this GPS. For a very pricey item it has a lot of bugs. The ones most obvious are -suddenly stopping tracking resulting in a straight line and now useless ride stats - suddenly shutting down, even with Auto Shutoff disabled. If you do not notice, ride stats are once again useless. Have contacted Garmin that suggested a hard reset and reinstalling the updated firmware. Did not help resovle the problem If this does not bother you I can sell you mine really cheap.

ALMOST TO MANY FEATURES.
Pros: tons of features, touch screen, size of display Cons: display in sunlight hard to read
what a great device. Documentation is skinny though. took a bit to figure out how to display cadence HR and speed on same display. Could be operator error but, perhaps they should assume you are a Luddite. That is why a 4 vs a 5. Love the micro sim slot for maps. I can use this for travelling and put it on a rental bike. extra bike mount is a bonus. touch screen is great.ability to customize how many items on the screen is great

EXCELLENT BIKE GPS
Fabulous battery life with a screen that is very bright and legible without using the backlight. Data screens can be customized. Very good and quick mounting system. Great unit for the bicyclist.

FINEST KIND BICYCLE GPS
Pros: all positives Cons: can't pedal my bicyle for me
Does everything you can possibly think of and more. Touch screen is not so sensitive as to be useless. I am not a computer geek and was easily able to set up all the screens just the any I wanted. Most importantly, Garmin has OUTSTANDING customer support unlike any other large organization I have delt with. Don't hesitate, buy this product from GPS City-they are also fantastic people to deal with.

GARMIN EDGE 800
Pros: has all the bells and whistles you will ever need Cons: garmin instructions suck, seek how-to's on the web
Excellent biking GPS, probably the best out there but do your homework before purchasing (bike forums, product reviews) to ensure this product is right for you. Good upgrade if you have an Edge 705 with the new single FIT file format that combines best of both worlds (TCX and GPX). Touch screen is a charm. If you are a Mac user, forget Basecamp and use sites such as Bikeroutetoaster or Route You to create routes/courses.

BLEEDING EDGE
Pros: shiny, faster, new screens and measurements Cons: poor documentation and interface holes.
Long time Edge 705 user in US/Eur/Aus. New Edge 800: It's got new features (touch, temperature, new screens and it's faster in attaining a location fix and responding to inputs. There are more screens and better set-up options.
Hopefully the developers and documentation writers are still working on it as there are a few holes in the interface and we're all guessing on how it's supposed to be used. See garmin Edge 800 forums
Garmin Mapsource is being replaced by BaseCamp but there are issues. Creating a route on a PC then downloading to Edge800 is not simple and the result on the road is still needs refinement.

AWESOME EXCEPT PRICE FOR THE MAPS
Cons: maps are not transferable, very pricy.
I'm a long time Garmin user, 305, 705 and now 800. The device is awesome, I like every aspect of it, screen, size, CPU speed, easy use, virtual partner, etc. One think I don't like: maps are not transferable to other unit. And its pricy, if you travel in Europe, get ready to pay $200 for North America and Europe combo. 5 stars for the unit, 4 overall.

UNEXPECTEDLY GOOD
Pros: color display, touch interface, data fields Cons: map licensing
I have read the reviews, thought about the touch interface and the back lit display. I must say the Edge 800 is a really great biking/fitness GPS. The display is readable, the touch works with gloves, the battery lasts and the maps are fantastic. I have been using an Edge 305 since they were released, I also have a forerunner 305, forerunner 405CX, Edge 705 and 500 for my wife, so I definitely know Garmin products.
The Edge takes many of the best aspects of the previous products and puts them in one package.
Likes: - Large set of data fields which pretty much cover anything you need to know about your ride. Vertical speed is a welcome addition for an interesting view of your progress upward. - The color display. Load up garmin topo maps and you get a fantastic view of the terrain in front and around you. Very nice implementation. - Routing. Did a great job of routing me on the fire roads that was my recent course. - Virtual partner. Great for pushing yourself against your best time. Good display and good feedback - Touch interface. Works great with gloves, is easy to understand and even functions well in an 8 hour solo endurance event when the fingers and brain are a bit tired.
Dislikes - Maps. Not the maps on the device but the cost and control garmin has on the maps. Once a map is associated with a device one can't move it. Get a new device, sorry, get a new map (no upgrade plan, must pay full price). Download, DVD or flash? Who knows, the answer is actually most likely DVD but given the choices, the different requirements for the choices it is not clear how one should buy maps (one would think they could buy a flash card and move it between device, nope, this is not allowed). The maps look great on the device, garmin's rules just kind of suck. - View with backlight off. It is good not great. That said a simple touch brings up the backlight and makes things extremely clear. Definitely usable and likely the right compromise just not as good as the (black and white) 305 - Multi-lap courses. Maybe there is a way to do a course for one lap of a multi-lap event I do not know it. I would love to say, here is the course compare me on a per lap basis to my best (or course time) and let me do as many laps as I decide to. The courses worked great for and out and back (no coming or going confusion) but I do not think there is support for multiple laps on the same course - Contour lines. The topo maps look awesome yet the shaded relief map is not as useful as having some contour information. Having the option for contour lines would have been great. - Software. Garmin software for the Mac is still adequate at best. I use "Ascent" to track my riding and running (interfaces well with Garmin products) and just use the Garmin products for map loading and course uploads.
Final words... All in all, the best biking/fitness GPS on the market. I would actually say likely the best biking computer on the market. One could go more general purpose with a bike mounted handheld (A bit big and clunky for my taste) or one could go more specific with a power meter head unit or polar HRM unit. In the end the Garmin 800 does almost all of this very well, records you route data, power, heart rate, altitude, temp, etc. displays these as you would like for the ride and allows you to review them later.
