My Forerunner is going on 4 years old. It is still functioning fantastic. I wear mine in snow and rain and no problems with rain leaking in. I have not had any problems with losing my location concerning forest cover or in the big cities. I only use it for running not other activities this might be why I am getting such longevity out of it.My next Garmin will be the same model or maybe the 205.

I love my Forerunner 201!. It's so easy to use, and the custom page feature is great. I've used it for 13 months and it still has all the records of my runs, walks, biking, etc. At a glance I know my pace, distance, average pace, time, etc. It locks on to the GPS signals as well as any of my hand-held units (I do lose the signal under heavy tree cover in the summer when there has been recent rain). Now I know how many miles I've put on my running shoes so I'm better able to make the decision as to when to retire them. I bought my son a Foretrex 101 because he camps, kayacks, etc., but he uses it for running and biking as well.

Well it’s been about 3 years since I posted my initial review shortly after these units were released by Garmin. Functionality, they work as advertised (except heavy tree cover or in the city with the sky obstructed by tall buildings) My issue is construction. I am on my third unit, and one is acting up. The first seemed to suffer a major software crash, and never came out of some diagnostic mode. The second unit, sent to me under warranty, appeared to let water in. (I occasionally put my 201 on the top of my touring kayak to track my speed.) Although out of warranty, Garmin replaced it advising it was a reconditioned unit, and probably had bad seals. Now my third one is having LCD Screen problems, which makes it almost unreadable. It started acting up when I ran with it and it started raining. I am way out of warranty now. So, if you buy one of these, I suggest you never let it see a drop of water. Water resistant or waterproof it is not.
