GARMIN GA25 MCX ANTENNA

Certainly improves reception (NUVI 750). Suggest a mod. Short length cable with mini connector and BNC male/female connection to antenna. Short cable remains in GPS unit preventing removal breakage.

ENHANCED SIGNAL

Pros: easy to route, good magnetic mount.

Works like a charm. Mounted on the tool box on a pick-up truck, connected to a 60CSx. GPSCity provided excellent service.

DOES THE JOB

Extends usability when GPS unit mounted in a vehicle. Only con is the mini plug is VERY fragile. Have to be very careful when removing from a portable GPS unit. Luckily, I have access to re-install a much more robust plug when this one breaks.

GOOD ANTENNA, BAD CONNECTOR

Pros: increases reception
Cons: short lived connectors

The MMX connections both in the antenna and in the GPS 76C are too short lived. I have had the GPS connection replaced once, repaired and antenna connection once and finally had to purchase this recent antenna. When the connectors are working the antenna does improve the reception of my older GPS. Its probably not necessary for the newer models of the 76 series.

SHORT CABLE

the cable for this antenna is not very long. i installed this on my 2005 F-150 for a center dash mounted GPS. i had to mount the antenna close to the windshield to have enough cable to route it under the weather stripping and under the dash. about another 5 foot would be much better for more mounting and routing options. as far as performance, it is difficult to say how much better the gps runs. i think i pay more attention to signal strenght since running the external antenna. i do frequently have full signal strength with all available sattelites.

A MUST WHEN RENTING CARS

Pros: simple, better satellite lock-up.

I often rent vehicles for work and I've noticed that my GPS (Garmin Quest) wouldn't pick up any satellites when mounted to the windshield on certain cars. Seems there's some sort of coating that prevents the signal from getting through. The workaround was to mount the GPS on the door window - but that just wasn't very handy.

The GA25 external antenna is perfect. It's a simple magnet mount that plugs into the back of the GPS. Takes about 30 seconds to route the wire along the door's weather seal and into the car. The advantage to having an antenna on top of the car rather than in the windshield is that you pick-up more satellites, hence greater resolution (I regularly get 2 - 3 meters).

REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Pros: faster response time on the screen
Cons: have to run wires under the headliner

The external antenna speeds up the operation of the GPS screen. I have two of these and have tried them both ways . . . buy the external antenna!

IMPROVES RECEPTION TO 99.999%

Pros: improves reception
Cons: limits portability

Our in-dash Streetpilot C330 used to lose reception about 1%-2% of the time. With the antennae we have yet to lose reception while out in the open. It has only failed under gas station covers or tunnels. We have a sunroof and the wire runs out without any leakage. Others have mentioned the connector can break - I just leave it attached even when removing from the mount for programming (when stopped, of course). GPS are cheap enough now I don't worry about leaving it hooked up, except in potentially high crime areas. I just take out the memory card with the current maps.

Ditto. The antenna works well I've seen estimated position accuracy (Garmin GPS60Csx) go from 18+ feet without the antenna to 6 feet with the antenna. However, the connector is junk. Mine broke the third time I used it. Enough remained to continue to use it for a while. I will buy another one but you must view this accessory as a disposable, short term device. Everything else on the Garmin GPS60Csx is so robust one wonders why they allow something this flimsy to carry their brand name.

I purchased this antenna because I called Garmin and they advised me it would be great to extend my distance. I wanted to install the garmin on my consol. But what they did not tell me was it had to be put on the outside of the car. I was told I could just put it on the dash. After talking with Garmin they did not help me and I would never buy another Garmin Product after the service I got from them.

The antenna does help reception, but the MCX connector is a total piece of junk. Mine broke the third time I used it. Don't buy it unless you really need a remote antenna.

I too bought one of these antennas and had the MCX connector come apart while connected to my GPS. The stiff connector cable puts lots of stress on the connection and it came apart while I was holding my GPS in my lap. This happened after one year.

Purchased one of these and it worked great. However, connection became locked in unit and would broke while I tried to remove it. Unfortunately, I threw it away in disgust as it did not seem economical to return for repairs.

I had purchased the antenna for my Garmin Nuvi. The first time I used it the MCX connector broke off in the receptacle, leaving the top part in the GPS. I will have to send the unit back to Garmin for repair and will not have it available for my use while it is in the shop. Not sure that it will happen again with new antenna.
