GARMIN FPS 18X USB + LINUX = GREAT
Setting this thing up under Red hat Fedora 11 Linux consists of plugging it in. hotplug recognizes it, fires up the gpsd and voila, you have a running GPS server on your machine that your applications (and other computers) can use to get positional and location data. What really impressed me was running xgps and watching the numbers change as I held the GPS in my hand and moved it around and up and down, this thing is really accurate and sensitive. Works great for wireless LAN locating with Kismet.
Pros: mag base, small, works out of the box in linux Cons: no external aerial jack Recommend: YES Tag: garmin gps 18x usb review, gps 18x usb review

GARMIN GPS 18 REVIEW
Works perfectly with resident mapping software. Needed to download Garmin Spanner to get appropriate Windows drivers when using non-Garmin software.. No instructions came with GPS 18, but pretty easy to figure out once Spanner is running.
Pros: compact, acquires sat signals well Cons: no instructions, needs additional software Recommend: YES Tag: garmin gps 18x usb review, gps 18x usb review
