QUITE OK, BUT...
Pros: intuitive interface, sun readable screen Cons: functional limitations (limited overlays)
We have two units on our boat, 4010 at nav desk and 4008 at helm. After a year of use I can say, that the unit is mostly OK, however it has one important limitation, which severely impacts its usability. This unit is capable to overlay radar data from Garmin radar (which we also have) and AIS data, BUT ONLY ONE at a time, i.e. I can overlay radar OR I can overlay AIS, but NOT both. This is not enough for safety when crossing busy areas on a foggy day.

IT DOESN'T WORK WELL. WASTES BIG SCREEN
If you want to see speed and other data, your boat has to be in the middle of the screen. This wastes most of the screen and you can't see what is coming up unless you zoom so far out that it is practically worthless. How often do you want to see where you have been? Well half the screen is devoted to that.
Also, the control tabs stick out about a third into the screen so that the right hand side of the screen is almost useless if you are in the scanning mode, which is where you want to be if you would like to see a good distance ahead of the boat. The thing is set up like a radar screen, which is great for radar where you want to see things coming in from all directions. But for someone just using the plotter, you want to be able to see as far ahead as possible in as much detail. If you set the screen up this way, you can't access data like speed etc.
