GARMINE 478 BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Pros: remarkable despite the size the screen is extremel Cons: no, canadian water maps! battery life is low!
The Garmin 478 is the best of both worlds, Marine and Automobile! (I had also purchased the microSD BlueChart CA006R for our area of use) I use it every time I am out sailing along the Northumberland Strait. Having the tide table and water depth available while helming is helpful, not to mention giving you a competitive advantage while racing.
And, from the automobile side of the 478, we had recently traveled from our home in New Brunswick to several destinations in Ontario and Quebec, without a hitch. Although, some of the roads did not show up on the 478, the 478 did guide us through some tricky situation (road blocks, detours, traffic jams etc..)
The voice commands were accurate and timely to the sudden obstacles we had encountered, always giving us an alternative route/directions.

GREAT PRODUCT, WISH G2 WAS PRE-LOADED
The GPSMAP 478 is a very good Marine product. I owned the 276C for years and liked that too. The integrated charts are excellent for the Chesapeake Bay and NE US to Newport (the only places I used it so far). I assume other areas are just as good. I take it on other peoples boats as well, as their RayMarine, $10K plus systems are complex, hard to use, and not there when you really need them. Great points water resistant (not waterproof), bright screen, easy menus, loads of features, quick land/sea mode, portability, ability to use G2, easy connect for XM, and the land mode is great for finding a local restaurant or boat supply store. Low points Land Nav for car travel is weak (buy a Nuvi for that), Not as waterproof as some might like, tides and other features still buried in menus, screen needs a protector sheet. If you have a small vessel, or crew for others, this is a great boat GPS. Protect the screen, have a spare battery, and learn the menus. It will serve you well on voyages.
