Outstanding. Easy to use. Multi functional with compass and Alt with GPS. Considered IQ PDA model but it is not suitable for outdoors. Best feature is that it is waterproof and it floats. Built in memory not lost due to power failure or battery changes and no SD cards to lose/get damaged.

This is a great unit. I upgraded from the Etrex Vista, and I am very pleased. This unit has a fantastic display, and tons of great options. The memory storage is 115 MB which will store tons of maps. I store road maps and topo maps for different sections of the states I visit. If your thinking of getting the 60CS and have a few more dollars to spend on memory you wont regret it. I also have the external antenna and wow does that work great as well. Garmin has a great unit here.

I read your review from Paul and I would like to know why the GPS 76cs is not recommended for outdoor use. I'm thinking of purchasing one mainly for hunting and fishing and would like details on this matter...thank you

I use the gpsmap 76cs for hunting and fishing and it works great. Make sure you get the mounts for your car or boat so you don't drop it. I give it a 10 / 10.... you won't be disappointed.

Stephanie: Note that Paul did not say that the Garmin 76CS was not suitable for the outdoors, he said that he "Considered IQ PDA model but it is not suitable for outdoors."

What is the best choice between the 60cs and the 76cs for hiking, trekking, hunting ... not sailing ?

This unit is an excellent piece of equipment- you won't be disappointed. My only complaint is the steep learning curve - a necessary evil I guess for a unit with so many features. 9.5/10

I have owned this unit for 4 months now. I have used it both in the everglades, and on the road in my Jeep. I find it very helpful and a excelent for geocaching and off road. I plan on purchasing city select north america for better road details.

Very pleased with my new GPSMAP 76CS. The display screen is super clear in bright sunlight. The brighter the better! Since I bought it three weeks ago, I've used it in the car, hiking and snowmobiling. Once you have practiced a bit, saving a route or saving a track is a piece of cake. You can save and upload the routes and the tracks to your computer. And you can prepare routes on the computer and download them to the GPS. Yes, the screen is very small, so don't count on mounting the 76cs very far away from your eyes. After many hours of use, I am still on the original 2 AA batteries; so this unit is clearly very energy-efficient. Highly recommended little GPS!
