DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

Pros: garmin is good when it works
Cons: slow, if loads at all, expensive one time update

I have always used Garmin products, but this one is a disappointment. It is possibly the 5160 Kenwood head unit, but it will not load every time I start the car. I am using the latest updates both unit and navigation, and yes slowest searches ever, don’t waste your money until Garmin and Kenwood get this worked out. Hey Garmin and Kenwood the products you build are only as good as the support you provide, you are going in the wrong direction. Expensive old data.

A SLIGHT UPGRADE FROM ORIGINAL MAPS /KNWD DNX 7160

Pros: lane change/off ramp assist feature is helpful,
Cons: slow search & simple poi`s/searches dont come up

I dont know if its the maps pack or the Kenwood 7160 I`m using but the search feature is painfully Slow & often shows "no match found" for the simplest of searches. I wonder how Really up to date the 2011 map sd card is ?

I had a Tom Tom portable unit before & it seemed much more user friendly. The Garmin should have the ability to show all locations of any POI selected. EG Starbucks, Costco Etc.

Unable to enter an address just across the USA border when in Canada unless I switch to USA map.

The sd card was simple to install & worked immediately, once its in there is no need to remove it.

The screen shot of the off ramp signage is a new feature with the map pack & that is very helpful in making the route clear when having to change lanes.

As far as gpscity they had the item in stock & were much cheaper then the only retail store I could find locally that could order it for me with a 3 week wait.

I will definitely wait a few years before upgrading again.

EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED

Only issue is the unit takes longer to start up when a SD map is loaded.

OK, BUT NOT IMPRESSED

Pros: gpscity.ca quickly resolved my need for an update
Cons: new garmin maps are outdated, especially rural maps

I purchased a used car with a Garmin Kenwood navigator and it was obvious that I needed a map update. This update required buying a one time use SDRAM card for $100.00 plus shipping. It was extremely difficult to find. The US Garmin help line said that I needed to pay the $100.00 plus $40.00 S&H plus Canadian duties and taxes. I declined and continued my search with no success. I was going on a road trip and needed the updates so I called Garmin back ready to suck up what I considered a ridiculously high price for a one time map. Fortunately, this time I talked to a saleswoman who refered me to a Canadian site gpscity.ca where I was able to get the update for 50% less. This would have been great except that the product was somewhat disappointing. About a month after updating, my GPS informs me that the update is a year old. I could have lived with that had it been true but when you get outside major cities, the road information can be up to 15 years old. My previous GPS was Tom Tom out of Europe which was much more up to date than Garmin out of the USA. Go figure!!

GARMIN-KENWOOD MAP UPDATE

Pros: good quality maps
Cons: out of date when issued.

This map update is equivalent in quality to other Garmin GPS map products. My big complaint is that the map updates for the Kenwood units incorporating Garmin GPS are a full year late compared to the standalone Garmin updates. This reduces the value of Kenwood GPS products by ensuring that you will always be using outdated maps. On the plus side, GPS City shipped the item within hours of the order and so did not contribute further to the update delay!

KENWOOD-GARMIN MAP UPDATE

Pros: mayby has update....
Cons: everything is bad

it's very slow to load and you'r always have to leave the SD card in the radio and sometimes it's only loading and you have to eject the sds card and put it back to make it work... Don't spend you money on this....
