Manufacturer Description |
This cable, similar to the illustration to the left, allows you to make a powerful connection between your GPS and your PC. Now you can do trip planning and waypoint management from your PC. Cable features a standard 9-pin serial port connector. Plugs into any standard cigarette lighter receptacle for power when you're on the go.
This cable has the molded GARMIN plug at one end to plug into the Garmin unit, and sports two separate cables, one with a cigarette lighter adapter (with built-in 8VDC regulator), and one with a PC Interface cable to serially connect to a Windows computer (for uploading of waypoint info and for downloading mapping data to the unit).
This is a more expensive cable because of the requirement for the built-in 8VDC voltage regulator, which is required by the lower cost GPS models.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to provide power to your GARMIN unit AT THE SAME TIME that you want to send serial data out, you will need this cable, or one of its sister cables, depending on the GPS model. This is due to the fact that Garmin GPS units have only one connector port on the reverse side (to reduce risk of leakage or moisture entering the unit).
