GARMIN 1370 REVIEW
Cons: download of map update difficult / non-functional?
Purchased a Garmin 1370 for use in Italy in fall 2011. Product performed perfectlyboth for highway and city use. All functions worked as advertized including speed limit, traffic cameras and possible route delays. I can certainly read a paper map well, but would have been much more difficult and time consuming to try to navigate in the larger cities like Rome and Modena. Product is highly recommended. Only difficult encountered was downloading map updates from the Garmin website.

EXCELLENT UNIT
I purchased this unit for a vacation trip to Italy. It worked extremely well, with clear indications of which lane to be in, with lots of lead time. The beeping of potential radar speed traps was aggravating as it appears they are programmed sometimes for below the actual speed limit. (Which by the way, they do not respect in Italy anyway.

MAKES DRIVING IN EUROPE WORRY FREE & ENTERTAINING
Very easy to use & accurate 95% of the time (traveled through Germany, Holland & Belgium). Only glitches occur in situations where i.e. there are electronically raised/lowered poles blocking off downtown streets (as was the case in Den Haag/The Hague). Excellent to source restaurants, banks, & even a Peugeot dealer to replace a busted mirror on our rental car. Loved the fact that all speed limits were indicated & radar sites were announced (permanent & mobile). The entertainment results from mispronounced names along the way - we were loathe to change our German Steffi as she added lots of laughter to our travels.

GARMIN NUVI 1370T
Pros: touch screen works great, screen layout is great Cons: concerned about getting map updates
This is my first GPS (and I am not very technologically savy) and it seems to be working fine. Had some trouble trying to update the maps. Seems my computer does not have enought room?? Probably me.. see explaination above. Bought it for the North America and European maps. I have a trip to Europe next year, but used it in Alberta for a trip to the Rockies. Was excellent at finding gas stations, food, shopping, etc close by. Was very useful to a new area to locate places. Gets a little confused when leaving parking lots and takes a few minutes to find current location when you arrive at a new place (such as in Calgary.. took 10 mins and a few reboots to change from my address in Ottawa to Clagary.. same on return home). Looking forward to using it in Europe. Delivery was exremely fast (ordered Friday, arrived Monday)

SHIPPED QUICKLY, UNIT TAKES A LONG TIME TO SYNC UP
Pros: good instructions Cons: time consuming to get satellite data
I received the unit within just a few days! That was great! The Garmin Nuvi 1370T works very well, even in Europe. However, it takes a very long time to sync up (as much as 30 minutes) and if you don't have it fully charged, that can be a problem.

UNRELIABLE
Cons: random malfunctions, terrible touch screen
At first liked the gps alot. used it at home in canada no problems. trying to use it in europe however had more problems. several occasions gps would not boot up so were trying to navigate through central france mountain roads blindly. Not good! this was a random problem that was not related to level of charge... When it was working it often recommeded leaving main highway in favour of small side roads that didnt make sense. Opted for good old fashion maps and made it home safely. Touch screen is awful. takes alot of pressure to engage then image scrolls across screen and out of view. Dissapointing purchase.

EXCELLENT FOR EUROPE VACATIONS
Used in Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland. Worked amazingly well, even on the little off-roads in Scotland. Easy to find points of interest. Gave excellent descriptions for directions. Sometimes found it hard to believe the instructions we were given, but were sorry when we didn't! It was right every time, except once. Used the British "Daniel" for our language selection and the pronunciation was always easy to understand. Would highly recommend for a European vacation.

NOT ENOUGH MEMORY FOR THE MAPS IT SHOULD COME WITH
Pros: design Cons: cannot store the maps it should come with!!
This is my second Nuvi device I own with maps for both Europe and the US. The first one was the Nuvi 670 which stopped responding to screen touch after 2 years.
The very big complaint I have is with the map storage capacity (in both models). The original 670 came pre-loaded with maps for Europe and US which needed to be updated immediately after I bought it, but the software gave only the choice updating only ONE of the maps. I spent countless hours on the computer and then on the phone until I got updates for both maps. NOW, with the 1370, I tried to update both maps as soon as I brought it home and the BRAND new device doesn't have enough memory to store both maps!!!! In other words I payed extra for a device that should come with BOTH maps but it has memory for only ONE update!!!! I spent again many hours trying to download the maps and then I called Garmin and they said that the device doesn't have enough memory (TO HOLD WHAT it is SUPPOSED to hold!) and they said that I must go and buy a storage card! SO I think that this device is sold by Garmin and they know that it doesn't do what it is supposed to do! Is this consumer's fraud? I don't know, but I'm really disappointed (for the second time)

THE PROS AND CONS OF NUVI 1370T
Pros: give lane indications. realtime routing. Cons: lose signal in big city, such as sf.
The good thing is the GPS provide real time routing to avoid traffic jams. It also give lane indications for turns and exits. The problem is that the lane indication shows up too early, and may cause driver take pre-mature turn or exit. There is no warning/attention tone/beep before the speech.

GREAT FOR GETTING AROUND SWEDEN
Pros: affordable way to navigate europe Cons: loves slow side roads rather than the quickest way
I've owned several Garmin GPS systems over the years, and I was impressed with how seamless it was to drive around Sweden. I even bought the City Xplorer for Stockholm, which came in quite handy on several occasions, although it took a bit of getting used to. This is a great product if you plan to drive around Scandinavia, and I presume the rest of Europe which I didn't try.
As with other Garmin products, though, it loves to route me through obscure side roads in order to save a few tenths of a mile, even though they have lots of stoplights and slow speed limits. (Yes, I did select fastest route.)

Pros: clear display, excellent european maps Cons: battery hog
Worked as expected. I already own a Garmin and bought this one because it had both European maps and North American maps preloaded. I used it in Italy, Austria and France and it always provided me with good directions. I found it to be harder on batteries compared to my other one. When they advertise 4 hours, they really mean a 4 hour limit.

NUVI 1370T, EASY TO USE IN EUROPE.
Pros: easy to use, good display. excellent gps. Cons: no real time warning when a highway is closed.
We bought this GPS for our trip in Europe. Before leaving we updated the European maps and programmed all the addresses we wanted to go to.In the beginning we were not able to get satellite signal but when we change the "Home" position from Canada to Germany, the GPS works fine. Although we were told by friends who owned GPSs not to rely 100% on the GPS, in this trip we count on the GPS instructions and arrived at our destinations with no problems, even in small cities in Germany, Netherlands and Czech Republic. We just wished there is a real time warning when a section of highway is closed for repairs. The GPS was able to guide us out and continue our trip although it took longer time to our destination.

Whe already own a Garmin model 650 nuvi and buying a new one we tought we would improve our system. But in this 1370 T model we lost the truck route option as we drive a Motorhome across North America. Consequently we have to drive with both systems to avoid any bad surprises as bridges etc...... GOOD AUTOMOTIVE GPS FOR EUROPE
Pros: generally does what it is supposed to do. Cons: odd pronunciation of italian street names
I ordered this GPS because it came with preloaded European and U.S. maps. I planned to use it on a trip to Italy which I have now done. I have no complaints except that the pronunciation of some of the Italian street names is rather odd. I don't know if that is a problem with all GPSs or not. The pronunciation is the same in British and American English modes. While visiting Positano Italy, the GPS would go a little bonkers if you missed a turn for which there wasn't much of an alternative other than to turn around and try the turn from the other direction. But in most areas it worked properly. I would hate to drive in Italy without it.

GREAT GPS FOR ROAD WARRIORS
I lost my beloved Garmin iQue3600 after 6 years and needed to get another tool for the road. I had a trip to the UK coming up so I wanted one with Europe & US preloaded. Didn't have many selections in the preloaded ones so I bought the NUVI 1370T and boy what a great GPS it turned out to be. I read a lot of reviews and a few reviews almost steered me away. Of concern was the time they said it took to find itself - I never had a bit of delay in the GPS finding itself - even going from the US to the UK. I haven't used it since I've been back so I don't know if there will be any finding itself back in the US - I don't expect any. I used it on a trip in the US right before I left for the UK and was quite impressed with how much Garmin GPS technology has improved since my iQue. I really like the street names being spoken. Wasn't sure how well I would like the 3D view but it is great also. My wife used it on a business trip and not being a real techno person, she said it worked great for her. I registered the device at Garmin and got the free update for the European maps. Off I went to the UK and never had a bit of problems with it. I'm not sure if it got confused a little by the left side driving or not, I could swear it told me to turn right when I couldn't but I could be mistaken. I was going to give this device to my wife and now I'm not too sure - I may keep it for myself. I will be going back to the UK at least 4 times a year so it will be good for that trip. I compared the 1370 to the higher priced Garmins and it doesn't seem like this one lacks anything but Junction View, which I would like to have after seeing it on a friends Garmin. Who knows, maybe I will give this one to my wife after all.-)

SPECIFIC NEED GPS
Pros: eu software Cons: not enough pois
I would recommend this GPS to a friend if they were soon, or regularly go to Europe. Otherwise, why pay extra for the EU maps? That being said, this unit is a really good value, especially if you don't what a lot of whistles and bells. This unit does not work with route planning software, but it's very good at what it does do. I was impressed that it knows speed limits and can calculate estimated time of arrival, very well. Whereas a TomTom a friend had along on a long trip does not, and over a 15 hour drive was off by 2 hours.

BUYER BEWARE GARMIN = GARBAGE
Pros: works well when it works Cons: often does not function, hopelessly inadequate
I took the Garmin to Europe in August 2010. Garmin is crap. Displays Garmin screen and freezes won't go any further just when you need it most. Must power it off/on a dozen times to attempt to wake it up. Sends you on the worst possible route, via winding mountain roads instead of a convenient highway, or the long way round vs. the obvious route. Often loses satellite reception. Begins giving incorrect directions then corrects itself. User interface is confusing. Artificial voice cannot pronounce foreign street names. Doesn't realize when streets are pedestrian only. This device is a complete waste of money. I REALLY wish I had not purchased this.

Went to Europe and the second time I used it the thing froze up right when I turned it on and I had to find a Garmin dealer in Oslo to get it to work and even after that it did it many more times during the trip but I knew how to reset it from the visit with the dealer and their service man - not very impressive! The unit shuts down on its own sometimes while you are driving and you have to restart it and re-enter your destination. It got us where we wanted to go but the unit could have come with some directions. I have used another Garmin or I wouldn't have had any idea how to use it.

WHEN IT WORKS, IT IS A LIFE SAVER.
Pros: very easy to use, love the auto & pedestrian mode Cons: freezes
It freezes sometimes, or loses satellite signal, but when it works, it is a life saver. I used it in Ireland and it worked beautifully for the majority of the trip!! The first time you switch it on when you are in a different continent, you will have to wait 15mins - 30mins before it locates the signal. Do remember to use your own judgement. For instance, I find myself not following the GPS's instruction on my home-work commute. This GPS can see traffic in highways but not in residential streets. So when it tells me to go to a heavily congested residential area, I avoid it.
When it freezes or thinks too long when calculating a route, the only suggestion I have is to turn it on and off. Not sure if there is a better way.

GARMIN 1370 T TRANS ATLANTIC GPS
Pros: fast sat aquistion, lane spoting, accurate, posted s Cons: inconsistance entering of waypoints, no labels on
First let preface my review by saying I am a Geocacher, therefore I look for a something different in a GPS. Also I don't ever buy a GPS for the Bluetooth, or the picture viewer, or a lot of the other "extras" all the makers seem to want to load in a GPS. To me a GPS is a Navigation tool. a device to get me from one spot to another, and a device to keep me from getting too lost. That being said, I found the 1370T to be good in the those basic functions. I bought it to drive around Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and to point out the location of Geocaches along the way. So if wanted to we could stop then use our hand held and find the cache. As far as the Nav part the unit worked well. It put me in the right lane and kept me informed of road changes in a timely manner. I did like that it would show the posted speed and my speed as I drove along on most major roads. that was cool! I never even had to look at the car speedometer. On road closures and detours it handles that well but I must admit I just followed the signs mostly in that case. Because the GPS did not know of the construction and would try to take us back to the closed road so I turned off the Nav feature (Miss Voice). I preloaded 1000 geocaches before we left America and found that the cache names or GC number would not show up like on my Garmin 2820. That was bad but not a show stopper. while in route when I tried to load my next section of caches and I never could get them to appear on the screen. not sure why. But it worked on the next section, again, of course no names. At one point when trying to load new caches (waypoints) the GPS just shut down and would not boot up past loading maps. The next day when plugged into car power it booted up but no Caches. On the next and final section it appeared to load up the new caches(waypoints) but would not show the GPX file in the GPS and there were none showing on the GPS screen. But when the unit was later plugged into car power everything showed up. Weird! In closing I would say as a GPS the unit worked well for getting from point A to B and was even able to find some hotels and restaurants from it internal DB with no problem. As for an aid to mobile Geocaching I would rate poor at best. Note the spec did say "not Geocaching friendly" however all the car GPS specs say that and My old Garmin 2820 works very well in that regard and even holds 2000 waypoints as apposed to the NUVI's 1000. 1370T Nav only works well, Geocaching Aid, poor at best.

GARMIN- THUMBS WAY DOWN
Pros: none Cons: see above
Excerpts from our journal in France 5/2010" .... When we typed the touch-screen not much happened. After repeated attempts it became apparent that it was less “touch-” and more a “press hard” screen. Odd that a new, pricey, hi-tech device would be so clunky. On another failed lesson, we tried to type in a town named, Moulin. What came up on screen was about six or more Moulin. Did we want Moulin 02? Or Moulin 03, or 24? Probably not the one in Michigan. .... If I hear ‘Recalculating’ one more time I’m going to scream! On one occasion it told us to turn right on some road—only noteworthy in that there was no road in sight as we were on a limited access highway. .... There's more, but I won't bore you. On the upside, it did find a Dunkin Donuts that had moved just around the corner in a tiny VT town.

I NEEDED AUTO AND PEDESTRIAN MODES
Pros: grabs satellites quickly, works really well Cons: i miss being able to load and activate routes
We had always used a GPS276 from my boat when we were on an extended automobile trip in the US or Canada. This year we decided that we would take a GPS to Europe and also that we would like the Pedestrian Mode when in Paris. Our choices quickly were down to about 3 Garmin units and we chose the 1370T. It is very easy to use and understand. In the car, it is just what we are looking. I simply added the Paris maps to the unit and away we went. I use RoadTrip for pre vacation planning of routes, stops, and visits to points of interest, and as a boater I am very comfortable plotting a course/route on the PC, loading it into the GPS and following it pretty faithfully. I miss being able to load a route and activate it in the GPS.

GPS FOR TRIP IN EUROPEAN RENTAL CAR
Pros: intuitive interface (no matter what others say) Cons: allows only 1 via point
This is my first GPS. Purchased it for use on a 2-week vacation trip in a rental car in Italy.
I have been using it for two week locally, and I am extremely happy with the 1370T. I found the interface intuitive, and easy to learn.
I programmed the waypoints for the Italian trip using Google Earth. The Garmin RoadTrip application did not show many of the small villages and roads I wanted to take. I had to manually truncate all waypoint coordinates to the number of digits required by Garmin. The Garmin POI Loader worked fine.
I have one complaint. The 1370T allows only one VIA point to be inserted between the start and end point of a daily trip. My most complicated daily route requires 10 Via points.
Garmin warns you, rightly, not to change waypoints while driving, not easy to do with only one VIA point. There may not be a suitable parking place near where the VIA point needs to be changed. Allowing 3 VIA points would have prevented that problem, provided the latest VIA point entered would go to the end of the VIA point list. VIA point passed, should be dropped from the VIA point list.
The windshield mount for the Garmin is really solid. I mounted it once, and it still holds solid.
Aside from the limited via points, I am satisfied with the 1370T. I suspect there is no model with the European maps, the 1370T features, and multiple VIA points.
Initially, GPSCity gave me a scare. Their website said the 1370T is in stock and will ship in two business days. Then I got an e-mail advising the 1370T was out of stock, with the promise to ship to me immediately after they received new stock. No indication if this might be a week or a month.
As it turned out, I received my unit for GPSCity within 9 business days. They shipped on a Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM, and I received the 1370T the following Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
Needless to say GPSCity had a very completive price, and their delivery time was not unreasonable.
I will buy again for GPSCity, and my next GPS will be one made by GARMIN.

NUVI 1370T
Pros: pre loaded euro maps Cons: see above
works well with the exception of the failure to take the protper route to my home!! fortunately i know where i live so tha's not important but i wonder what other errors are built in. Also there in no way to change the incorrect route it gives me which is frustrating. Also there is supposed to be free map update download but the site won"t allow it so that's misleading!

NUVI 1370T
Pros: fast updating, vehicle economy data is very usable Cons: picture viewer has flaw. bracket does not fit 265
I bought this unit because my daughter borrowed my Nuvi265WT. This is a much nicer unit The only feature I wished it had is the Junction View, but I wanted the European maps, so this was my best choice. I liked the spoken street feature but the pronunciations are sometimes wrong. I used the fuel economy on my wifes Liberty on a 700 mile trip and it was fairly accurate. I will be adding the Bluetooth Vehicle Data accessory ($150.00) so I can read Realtime Vehicle bus data and it will allow me to access live vehicle fuel economy on my Highlander that does not have a trip computer. Only downside to this unit is an issue with the Picture viewer that Garmin is working on.

EASY SET UP
Pros: garmin site, international maps Cons: none
Concerns about search time seem to be unfounded, very quick (as other brands) loading. The garmin site is easy to use and they come through quickly on there free offers. Map quality and completeness in Canada is superior to my other units. Yet to check the Europeon maps and pedestrian mode.

GARMIN NUVI 1370 T
Very hard to operate. I wish there had been an instruction booklet with it. Blue tooth operation spotty. Not user friendly when starting the car. Tempermental to turn on after each stop.
[Ed. note: David, you can find the user manual for this unit here: http://www.gpscity.com/pdfs/manuals/NUVI1370T-EN-MANUAL.pdf]

GREAT UNIT
Maps for both Europe and North America were what attracted me - worked flawlessly in UK for recent holiday (touring Lake District & Cotswolds + Ovford for daughter wedding) + GTA / Montreal. I like the portability of the unit (I understand it is thinner / lighter than older models - but I have nothing to compare as this is my first GPS. The user interface seems very intuitive - I looked at the instructions and then found it worked well (whereas our children simply picked it up and used it perfectly easily with no prior reading!). City-navigation feature sounds potentially useful if visiting new city (not yet used, but my wife will likely buy a map for next city she visits later this year). I have not yet used 'bluetooth' interface for handsfree cell phone use, nor traffic data feature. I have updated the Maps / software (free from Garmin site) - but complete process took some time from start to finish. Only one update to Maps is free - thereafter one must pay and prices seem quite expensive. Overall, glad I have it in the car for trips to new locations around GTA (and for visits to areas outside GTA)

Cons: it doesn't work for more than 2 weeks
It was great for 2 weeks, one day it stoped working. I turned it off and when I tryed to turn it on again the only thing hat appears is a black screen with Garmin logo on it. I'll send it to the manufacturer but dont know when I'm gonna get it back
