HAS DONE EVERYTHING I NEEDED

Pros: small size
Cons: the back button is too close to other buttons

We purchased the unit and Western European maps about 2 days before taking a trip to Ireland, the maps work spectacularly and learning to use the unit was straight-forward.

SPEECH RECOGNITION A NICE ADDITION

Pros: speech recognition and ease-of-use
Cons: traffic service in canada

Overall, it's a nice and easy-to-use GPS. The speech recognition, really the only notable upgrade over my last Garmin, came in handy during a 3,000 km road trip.

Garmin's online software update and add-on download portal is a great tool and there's no shortage of extras available to make this day-to-day tool a little more fun.

As far as operation goes, this is no worse than any other GPS unit I've used and indeed is much better than some of the other players at this price point.

If you're buying it with the expectation of lifetime traffic making a big difference during your daily commute, you may want to reconsider. I found the traffic service on this device didn't come into its own until I was well into the US.

DISAPPOINTING

Pros: traffic info on gta highways is good.
Cons: map updates are a horrible process. audio is low.

This is my third Garmin GPS, and by far, the most disappointing on a number of levels.

I just spent three hours on the phone with tech support, who finally said they couldn't fix the maps download problem, and I should just get another computer. They tried to blame my router firewall, my PC firewall, and my antivirus progam. I let them take over the computer remotely, and they still couldn't fix the problem. The second computer took eight hours to download the maps, and another hour to process and install them. There was still an 'uexpected error' at the end of all that. Apparently, this problem is widespread and complaints on the internet are numerous.

My other misc. complaints include -Low audio volume in a small car, with windows up and the fan turned off. -When used as a handsfree unit, you can't hear the other phone ringing on an outbound call. -It won't update the phone book. Numbers I deleted from the phone ages ago, have never been deleted from the 2495. -Voice recognition can't be used to find an address. Voice recognition does work for typical commands like 'view map', but with street names being pronounced so many ways, this function really can't work very well. -Voice recognition doesn't work at all for saved places. You have to move the cursor four items at a time, until you find what you want. -Saved places don't have an icon on the screen. -Menus aren't very intutive. I've finally had to map them, but they change between touch screen input and voice input.

In summary, if Garmin had map updates for my old Street Pilot 2620, I'd have kept it, and passed on the nuvi. My nuvi experience has been rather fustrating.

GOOD INVESTMENT

Pros: nice maps & exit ramp pictures
Cons: froze a few times within days of purchase

Could be more user friendly, but once you get the hang of it, it is inpressive. Turn information could give more warnings.

MY WIFE LOVES IT

Pros: live traffic update

My wife says it is very good at live update on traffic conditions in GTA. Because of children at home, my wife needs quickest possible alternate routes to go back home after work.

BEST GPS SOFAR..

Pros: guidance 2.0,lane assistance, custom voice speech.
Cons: no warning tone if crossing speed limit.

This is one good GPS if ur looking at this price. I liked it very simple to use.Guidance 2.0 takes it to next level with recalculation is fast and perfect lane assistance.Quick to navigate, search near by places. real photo junction view is cool.voice command works great, had few troubles to understand my slang else its fine. would have been better if there is a warning tone if u cross speed limit- it only turns red. Dint get chance to look for traffic information. I guess I found what I want..so far no complains..will review if I find any cons.

GREAT GPS

Pros: fast to synchronize, good display, good menu
Cons: not compatible with mapsource

The unit was redy to navigate quickly indoors near a window. The map software was up to date but the device software needed to be updated. It did not update exactly as described using Windows 7. It is not compatible with Mapsource which I consider a serious shortcoming. Mapsource lets you preplan your trip on your PC and load your favorites to the GPS. It provides speed limits but the information for Hunter Mill Road near Reston, VA was out of date and 5 mph too high. The speed limit was lowered at least 2 years ago. The voice recognition worked well but is not as flexible as keyboard entry. It will not look up a distanct unique point of interest such as Peaks of Otter unless you search using the nearest town. My android smart phone will do this. I did not get a chance to check the traffic information.
