VERDICT IS STILL OUT
Pros: looks, state-of-the-art Cons: not a real good dash mount
This was a replacement for a Nuvi 650 that broke [twice]. I had already purchased a 1490T and then got maps and traffic [wrong way to do it].
The 3490LMT, naturally, has the maps and traffic [right way to do it].
But the 3490 is smaller that the 1490 and therefore more difficult for some [me] as a dash mont.
It doesn't save locations as easily [may just take education and experience] and I can't load routes as easily either [so far no success at all].
It is supposed to use BaseCamp as opposed to 1490's compatibility with MS Streets and Trips but that product falls way short - esp. for the Canada routes.
I still have not been able to copy over [from my 650 and 1490 files] any of my saved data: like POIs, favourites and routes.
I powers off when it feels like it the same as the 1490 but, they both remember what they were doing when brought back up [a distraction, however].
If, I could, I'd trade it back for a 1490ish that has more storage capacity so I can download more trips at one time from MS-S&T.
I haven't used or found a way to use the voice activation feature of the 3490.
I like the compactness of the 3490 for use as a portable GPS and shirt-pocket convenience along with the increased storage capacity and I like its mounting clip. The ability to rotate the screen image is nice but not much use for a dash mount.
Overall, once I get to know it, I think it has good potential.

FUN & EASY
Pros: easy to use, big bang for your buck Cons: not water-resistant
I have to say Garmin continues to impress me with their line of GPS's. I looked at a lot of reviews and posted many questions on a few different forums and after a couple of months of weighing out the options I went with the Nuvi 3490LMT. I purchased this unit as an up grade to my Nuvi 1390LMT which I have used for the past 3 years without issues on my ’96 Goldwing. I had a hard time deciding between the Zumo 665 and the Nuvi 3490. The advantage to the Zumo is the water resistance but the reviews were not the best. And for the price of the Zumo I didn’t want to mess with it. I received the 3490 and played with it for a couple of weeks and have found it does everything that the Zumo does without the added monthly charges. When the rain starts I put a bag over it which has worked great with the 1390 and I have been is some big downpours. It connects to my phone quick and easy and gives me weather alerts along with a handful of other things. It did cost to get the weather but it’s not a monthly charge and is all I need. I do see the need for another one as my wife seems to think she gets to keep it in her car.

GARMIN DOES IT AGAIN
Pros: vivid display and easy to use. Cons: must by a case!
This is my second Garmin GPS and it did not disappoint. It's thin portable and accurate. Graphics are great and very simple to program. Live traffic monitoring is something new and it's pretty neat. Haven't got lost yet!

FIVE STARS FOR THE NUVI 3490LMT
Pros: thin, light-weight, quick to detect satellites. Cons: screen size, map inaccuracies, not intuitive to use
I'm very happy, overall, with the new nuvi 3490LMT, which replaces our previous Garmin Street Pilot 2720. The size and portability is quite an improvement, although I would have preferred a 5" screen. The learning curve on the 3490 is steeper than with the Street Pilot, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. We'll be taking a long trip soon, and will be able to test the traffic information. There are still inaccuracies in the mapping information, even with the most current maps.

BEST XMAS PURCHASE
fast, reliable and excellent interface both during day and night time. We have an old version and it has been very reliable. the con: no maps updates included and a bit of a hazel to update if you are not a tecno person. With this new version, we're very happy, all of our worries are gone.

GARMIN NUVI 3490LMT
Pros: fast routing and accurate exit ramp indicators Cons: none
Went on recent trip to LA and San Diego and honestly, the driving and the entire trip would not have been as enjoyable without this purchase. Cannot imagine driving down in LA without this device. Also picked up the ecoRoute hd to go along with it. Had a problem with the GPS after firmwware flashing on the initial unit but GPSCity arranged for a replacement to be overnighted the next day as my trip was beginning in two days time. The highest kudos to GPSCity for the excellent service and easy refund/replacement policy. The sales/support tech could not be more friendly and helpful with the replacement. Definitely will be a return customer and I will be recommending GPSCity to all my friends and colleagues.

IMPRESSIVE DEVICE
Pros: fast signal fix. Cons: a little pricey. traffic doesn't work in mexico.
The best GPS device I ever use. Just 4 stars because the terrain layer render time is a little slow. Get, if you can, the ecoRoute HD cable.

3490
Pros: size, features Cons: map
Been using this GPS for a few weeks now. GPScity shipped it really fast!
The live traffic is great, although it's not always correct or updated on time. Last week I hit a jam on a highway that was created 3 hours before and the GPS didn't know anything about it....
All the options are amazing to me as I upgraded from a 2006 unit that I bought at that time for about $150.
What I REALLY dislike about this GPS is the map (to the point I almost returned it...). Street names are really small and ONLY visible as you are driving past them. In my previous GPS I could use the map to zoom in on say downtown Toronto, see the street names and point the GPS to the street I want to go. You can't do that with this. Well, you can, but no street names are visible. If you use your finger to point, it will tell you which street you just clicked, but it won't show any street around it. This feature is almost useless as it is I you can spend a lot of time randomly clicking on the map trying to guesstimate the location of the street on the map. It's a huge flaw and I hope they'll fix it!

I love it. Is much better then 3790 LMT. Better interface, better navigation, accurate trafic info most of the time. So far the best gps I own it until now.
