GREAT, BUT THE BLUETOOTH IS USELESS
Pros: small, great cradle, fast, excellent screen Cons: bluetooth basically useless
I bought this last year and have really enjoyed it. The docking cradle is fantastic - you don't have to plug and unplug the power cable each time you want to remove the GPS.
The one problem I've had with this thing is that it will not stay connected to my phone (blackberry torch) via bluetooth. It randomly drops (then sometimes reconnects, sometimes not) the connection after a few seconds up to about 20 minutes. No audible warning when it drops the connection - just a notification on the screen for 5 seconds (which sometimes I don't see). VERY frustrating.
Routing is good, though it does tend to take me down side streets when a better, more arterial road is just up ahead. Love the multitouch screen - way better than the older ones. I don't have any issues with the glare on the screen at all.

TOP OF THE LINE PERFORMER, BUT HAS A FEW DRAWBACKS
I've been using this unit since December 2010, and I love it for many reasons stated here. The functionality, to which I continually discover nuances as time progresses, is second to none. That said, there are a few issues that I consider weaknesses that the buyer should consider, things for which I rate this a 4, not quite a 5. These are:
- Screen size: 4-is inches of screen size is a bit smaller than ideal. I had a 5" screen unit previously, and that was large enough for the details plus the maps to be seen clearly. The screen clarity helps, but another half inch or so would be ideal.
- Microphone sensitivity: Unadjustable, the microphone is very tempermental. It has to be very quite for it to translate words consistently, and you have to face the unit directly and speak deliberately. With voice recognition and microphone technologies where they are today, these weaknesses are annoying, and affect voice command and phone usage.
- Lane recognition: The 3790T often things I am on the service road when actually on the highway and vice-versa. This causes it to recalculate often, which is annoying at best and challenging for those times when I am about to exit or turn.
- Speakers: The speaker on the unit is very limited in volume, While the speaker on the pedestal is better, it could be a bit louder.
Great things: I could write essays on the excellent features, but many are already covered. Some of them, summarized, are: - very fast satellite recognition on startup - complete trip calculators - traffic integration is excellent. Every time I ignore alternate routes due to traffic, I regret it! - recalculation is fast - self-learning one's preferred routes is a helpful tool - regular map updates are critical and well appreciated

ANOTHER LONG TERM GPS USER LIKES THIS ONE
Pros: flawless operation, intuitive use,a-1 visuals Cons: battery life, screen protection
I bought my first GPS to replace a LORAN-C. That should tell you how long I've been using them. I've had many, some good and some terrible, but Garmins have always led the pack. They have again. For it it is made for, automobile navigation, this thing is just fantastic. It is blinding fast to lock on even though I live in a valley and park under trees. It can find places on remote West Virginia country roads with astounding accuracy one day and take me a quarter way across the country for a first time visit to an address for pickup of an E-bay item the next. While at first I did not care for the operating system it was because I was trying to think of it as a hand-held multi-purpose machine. That's not what it is. Its takes you down roads to the place you wish to visit. It has an outstanding system for doing this, combining intuitively easy to follow (and hear) audio directions with great graphics and visibility. I have had not problem at all with glare while using it in two vehicles. As for the voice commands, it did have some trouble when being used in my diesel pickup truck. However it works flawlessly in our car. Background noise counts.
All is not well though. When using the GPS in my wife's car I had to run it on its battery. Her cigarette lighter doesn't have power. Battery life is shorter than I would like. I have both my screen brightness and volume turned down to about 60% in the car so the battery life should be good, but in just a couple of hours it went dead. I'm going to fully charge it again tonight and run it completely dead tomorrow to see just how long it really lasts.
One of the features that I didn't give a bit of thought before I bought the machine is the hands free bluetooth phone connection. I love it! What a great combination, voice GPS commands linked to the cell phone for hands free use. My phone is not one that Garmin lists as compatible, but it links up and works just fine. All features work including on-screen display of my phone's address book and then voice commands to dial. This is a combination made in GPS heaven.
As for size and fit and finish - outstanding! I thought it might be a little small for my myopic sight, but I can read the screen easily in either the truck or the car. Oh, the truck is big and I am not so we are well separated. I can reach it for touch commands, but I have to lean forward.
I am concerned about scratching the screen. I think Garmin should have provided some sort of protective case for it. It wouldn't take much, and I intend to find one soon, if you buy one I think you'll want one too.
In the end if you are in the market for a GPS for auto navigation I would certainly recommend the 3790. Mine has the lifetime maps and traffic thing, which made sense for me because I'm a freak about map accuracy - I demand it.

DISAPPOINTED
Pros: size Cons: lousy optimum navigation
Have now had this unit for ~11 months and am very unimpressed with the navigation. My old 780 was much better. The 3790T is awful on Houston highways often directing you to take an exit off the highway only to get right back on at the next entrance ramp! It sometimes fails to navigate highway interchanges correctly, e.g. desiring to go straight: instead of proceeding straight through as you would expect it will route you to exit onto the crossing highway, take the first exit, u-turn, get back on the highway, then turn back onto your original highway and turn in the direction you were originally going. Just last week I was driving North on US59 (~5 lanes wide each direction) in the left lane and for almost *ten* miles the 3790T thought I was on the off-highway feeder road a couple hundred feet to the right.
The 3790T will eventually get you where you're trying to go, but it rarely seems to choose the most direct or easiest route.
For the price Garmin commands for this unit I expected *much* better than what I got.

MIXED BAG
Pros: see above Cons: see above
I was very excited to try out this new GPS after my great Nuvi 260w got stolen. It has been a mixed bag so far (I've only used it a few weeks).... Pros: The traffic sensor appears to work very well, as does the traffic re-routing. Not 100% accurate (especially supposed "road work"), but not bad for sure. I am still learning about new features, but there are some nice new additions (such as a googlemap-type route breakdown, more flexibility controlling some screens, etc.) Cons: 1) The biggest one so far is the appearance of ^%$*$* advertizements! As I'm driving along, some dang store/hotel has some offer that appears. Worse yet, there does not appear to be a way to disable this function, and some of the advertizements will not dissappear (I have some stupid hotel on my "traffic" screen now!). I want to talk to GARMIN, but this in my mind is a potentially FATAL problem....Just what I need.... 2) The on/off operation is NOT intuitive...I am not sure if my unit is functioning correctly or not. If you press the off/on button, it goes into sleep mode. Apparently, this still uses battery power, so if you leave it "off" and disconnected for several days, it will have a dead battery. To turn it off "really", one appears to depress the off button for several seconds. Then, to get it on, one has to depress the off button for several seconds (I think). I did not see this in any of the documents that came with it - maybe in some on-line manual? Anyway, very frustrating...I thought that it was broken for about a week after I turned it "really" off and could not get it back on....(not sure if it is really ok....) 3) The voice command thing appears to work in a quiet room - good luck in a noisy vehicle! Only rarely have I been able to get it acknowledge anything.... 4) Some features are worse - for example, fewer voices than my much-cheaper 260. What is that about? (why would one sell a more expensive unit with less options?)

FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH GARMIN
Pros: engineering, intuitive operations, resolution Cons: power connector at the vehicle side (just bad)
This is my seventh GPS, four automotive, two marine, one backcountry. I feel well versed in understanding GPS navigation and what to expect from a GPS device. The 3790T is a marvelous piece of technology. Was not sure I needed a GPS which emulated a mobile phone in size and shape, however I certainly do like it. I found the mode operations very intuitive although I really did appreciate technical resources on the web to fall back on, helping to abbreviate any required learning curve. This unit ended up in my wife's vehicle before one day's residence in my car, so I feel very comfortalble saying this unit has universal appeal.
The is a negitive issue, which I am now munipulating into a new configuration with hopes of better preformance and higher reliability. The male auto side power plug ground contacts on either side of the plug do not have enough resistance to keep the plug tight in a vehicle 12V outlet. They compress far too easily, compared to a mobile phone power cord, or other GPS units I own. This design allows the unit to fail, just when you are in the thick jungle of a strange downtown road pattern with no clue of how to get out alive. Well I did make it none the less, hence this report.

SEEMS OK
Pros: difficult to read, must touch screen just right Cons: nice size for your pocket
Can't say this is the best one as I've only tried a Garmin nuvt 350. Find that you have to touch screen just right, difficult to read as lettering very small, have only used it for a short period. Entering address's is somewhat difficult as touch screen for lettering very small, perhaps my fingers are big

GREAT UNIT EXCEPT FOR THE PRICE
Pros: good quality, size, easy to use portable Cons: rather expensive compared to other similar feature
I love this unit. It has all the features you would expect form a top-of the-line model. I haven't been able to test them all out yet but the ones I have worked well. I love the small size and the portability. As an owner of a Streetpilot 2720 the interface on this model appears to be more intuitive and easier to use (even without consulting the manual).

OUR FIRST AUTOMOTIVE GPS
Pros: clear bright screen, easy to use. Cons: the voice command though good is not perfect.
This was our 1st GPS so difficult to compare to other models, but our son has been using a Garmin 755T, so we decided to buy a GPS ourselves. The 3790T seems to be much improved over the 755T with the screen being much clearer and the voice command is useful, but does make some errors. We found the unit invaluable driving down from Vancouver, BC via Calgary to Denver. Great for finding places to eat and stay. I don't know how we managed without one!

SO FAR SO GOOD
Pros: fast, works well Cons: none yet
I have had Tom Tom, finding satelites took forever. Garmin is better for that. I have had garmins for ten years now, my third garmin was the nuvi 350 and it was the best for the longest time, absolutely no problems! I have replaced the 765t twice and the cradle broke twice!?, and I still have problems entering anything on the keypad, for example I touch the letter "P" and the entry is a "G", and this can go on for a while. I do not know if garmin has a solution for this problem yet? I bought the 3790t several month ago, I have navigated montreal to charlottetown and back through new england to montreal. So far I have had no problems, and it works realy well, it's fast compared to the 765t, the cradle is much better, I tried the dash friction mount for the first time with this gps, I don't know why I didn't buy one before it works really well and the gps doesn't get as hot as mounting it on the windshield

ROCKIN GPS
Pros: light weight, stylish, easy to use
I read all the reviews here from people who have complaints with this unit - I don't get it. So far, I haven't had a single problem. This unit works exactly as advertised. It's plenty bright to allow clear viewing in daylight, the graphics are clear, the screen is easily cleaned of any finger prints and it hasn't crashed in any way shape or form.
If there's one thing that might be improved I'd say it would be the voice recognition. On occasion it fails to understand the commands but I believe that's only happening because of high ambient noise from air conditioning or road noise.
It would be nice if it came with some type of protective case, nothing fancy, perhaps a leather sleeve of sorts. I do worry about scratching it when I stash it out of sight from the dirt bag thieves.

POOR FOR PRICE
Pros: great screen Cons: price, quality, its more of a phone then gps
I purchased for nearly 5 hundred dollar bills with tax. When you first handle it and turn on the brilliant screen you think you the gold mine of GPS. From this point it's all down the hill. After five hours on the phone Garmin admits it is not a true routable GPS. If you miss a waypoint it'll route you back to your with the old 'U-turn. They really could have done better then this at this price. Average voice command, average blue tooth and from there everything is below average. I've owned 11 of this companies products and anyone would outperform the 3790t.

VERY SATISFIED
Pros: good traffic info, great screen, lane assist Cons: not intuitive to find satellite picture screen
We have had several GPSs (all Garmins) and this is the best so far. We are very happy with it. Screen is bright and clear. We have read about glare issues, and in bright sun at a specific angle it can be an issue, but generally (95% +) is not an issue. It is no worse than any other GPS we have had. Traffic info is good when available (generally only in big city areas). It has a neat feature that gives you a choice of routes when traffic crops up. Top left shows lanes for next turn - really works quite well and accurately. Very, very happy with the unit

Pros: voice command, great screen, super thin Cons: cost :(
Great GPS. I still have the Nuvi 360 I've had for 4+ years in my wife's car. Voice command was better than anticipated -- if you are going to popular places or know the address its pretty bang on. Beautiful screen. Wish it had speeds of Canadian roads (like it doesn't even have the 401).

OVERHEATING
Pros: sleek, easy to carry Cons: overheating, switch off for over a day!
Cons: Used it Europe in summer. Several times overheated and switched off even for over 30 hours! Many times it took us a very big round route not utilizing the shortest one. Even after many trips it still did not remembered the shortest way. Text to speech (street names) is less then ideal to the point that I turned it off in Hungary and Austria. Battery life is not more that 1.5 hours when hand-held (tested in Seattle (USA). Pros: When it works it is great assist. Like to look and the ease of carry when not in vehicle. I like the functions and the ease of use. I enjoyed Mr. Nightmare's comments. Good sound.

AUTOMOTIVE GPS
Pros: size and portability Cons: needs some user friendly enhacements
I especially liked the "find by name feature". Found it to be a great portable device and easily to manage in a carry on. Seems to have a faster acquisition time than earlier units. The several exceptions include: -The voice activation needs some work. Sometimes it has difficulty understanding the commands. -Would have like to have seen the track up choice in the pedestrian mode. -The battery has a pretty limited endurance. -The on/off switch takes some getting used to. -There is limited highway info (speed limit display, building and structure display) available in Canada.

Well this GPS the screen is awesome, fast and sharp. The traffic features here in Montreal is not perfect but it's getting better. This GPS is getting pretty hot and I have drive on some roads that will make the GPS crash & restart everytime I pass on the same road.

I have owned 2 other Gps by Garmin and so far this has been the best one. The FM traffic channel is not as good as the MSN Direct on the other Garmin Gps but still pretty good. Pros: design, speed, nu route, free traffic Cons: voice command could be better
This product is great - fast, sleek design, and full of great features. I got it for my boyfriend as a gift as he needs a GPS for work and he has already had to use it on a 12 hour drive and everything went smoothly. The visual lane Assist has been helpful and the unit tracks your vehicle very precisely. I'm glad I spent the money on the 3790t because it is of excellent quality and will be used thoroughly. The only issue we have had is that the voice command is a little fickle, but we don't use the voice command very often. A great buy

A FINE UPGRADE
Pros: screen, size, maps, speed cameras. Cons: unstable (at first), reflective screen
A great upgrade from a Garmin Nuvi 350. The screen is sharp and it starts up very quickly. It was initially a little unstable but a software upgrade has fixed that. It still has the same mechanical female voice of previous Garmin's though. Routing to avoid traffic makes you take longer - turn it off! Screen is very reflective and can be hard to see in bright sunshine. Easy to copy favourites over from the prior Nuvi.

NUVI 3790T
Pros: quality Cons: see above
Excellent GPS. Big step up from Nuvi 360 I still have. Display is very sharp and size is perfect. On occasion keeps restarting what can be annoying, probably a software glitch. I do not mind it that much as this is overshadowed by overal quality of the product. Does not take that long to find satelites as some of the reviewers on internet stated. Sure, if you wait to find satelite before you type address it might appear long but most of the time by the time I am done entering address, satellite is already there. What I do not like, is the fact that every time you take specific route it marks it in a blue dotted line so next time you take the same route line or multiple lines (if you take the same route frequently)are already there. Possibly this can be switched off but haven't figured it out yet. Screen is not responsive to touch as well as I-phone is but you can get used to it. It is supposed to show speed limit and it does in US but not in Canada. I would say that at the moment it is the best unit on the market. If you have money to burn than go get it and you will not be disappointed. By the way, I recommend buying from GPS City. Unit was shipped the same day and arrived next day although I did not pay for next day delivery.

BETTER (PART DEUX)..
Pros: it's all good Cons: overworked, underpaid, sleepy, ok-negligent buyers
NEW and UPDATED info for my earlier Review. (original below) Small form factor (too small & skinny if you ask me). Get's scalding hot if enclosed in any fashion (don't recommend putting in an Aqua box on your motorcycle). Battery life is < 4hrs up to this point. There are some selections that take a more focused touch to select than others - like the sensitivitycapacitiveness (?) is not consistent. Has far, I mean F-A-R less streets and state highways than my 2008 Navteq in my Jeep does in my area (Turtletown, TN vicinity). I'm consistently driving on a green slate (Nat'l Forest) with Recalculatingor Procced to highlighted Route X singing in the background. So for me, this was a $500 toy that is not providing me any use locally. I'll be using it in Orlando and SeattleVancouver in a few weeks but now apprehensive about buying the $9.99 city maps another reviewer stated were jokes...anyway, I'm hopeful I won't be disappointed but not holding my breath and bought a Delorme PN-60wSE for my motorcyle to fix that situation...
(new below) OY! LOL! Ok, ok...found out why MY maps, well, stink in my rural area. While I got a great deal (403 USD total), after installing Communicator it all makes sense now - my package was shipped from Ireland (figured, uh, well, ok - from MemoryC) and yep, maps are City Navigator EUROPE NT 2011 :- ) So I'm all set for trips across the pond - and because I somehow missed that massive detail in all that research - my great deal just cost me either 79.99 more or saved me 70!! I am bumping to a 4, since viewing the sample map data online, it even shows my subdivision street, un-named, but most internet & gps based maps do not show it at all - just a "service road" stub, so I'm sure once I download my proper country's road system - I'll be much much more content. (but it still gets hot as hades enclosed!)

EXCEKENT STREET NAVIGATION GPS
Pros: excelent navigation unit + fun to work with. Cons: extra cost for voice command
I have had the unit for a month now. I have used it occasionally on car, bicycle and on foot. I had a few older garmin units before. This one has better satellites location, map resolution, navigation modes, features and interface. With such screen resolution I would like to have more detailed street names info at earlier zooming stages. The only problem is the voice command, which is quite useless for my accent. This is why I would not recommend buying 3790T and pay extra for the voice command feature. I would recommend other units from 3700 series though, especially when and if the unit with preinstalled NA and Europe maps appears.

SO MUCH POTENTIAL...
Pros: slick form factor... Cons: buggy as hell software... hope it can be fixed.
Got my 3790T 2 days after ordering - the usual GPSCity fantastic service. I've been trying to use the GPS, and the screen is unresponsive... buttons or icons will 'light' as if pressed, but nothing happens for 10-15 seconds. Hard rebooted... downloaded 2.5 update from Garmin... downloaded NT 2011... same problems. If I use the voice command to pick a city, it asks me if I want to navigate there. When I say 'Yes', it reboots. EVERY TIME.
When I actually get to a navigation map, it looks very nice. Very crisp and high resolution, redraws are fast. There is a lot of 'pop in/out' when the map auto zooms. This will leave an area of drawn map in the middle, with a jagged edge of black/grey around it until it draws it... sometimes a few seconds.
I had a similar flaky experience with my Dakota 20 being an early adopter... software updates sorted that out. For $450 and more that I spent on accessories... I expect something better. I'm on the fence on waiting for a possible update or sending it back before my 30 days are up...
Oh, and my old Sony stayed stuck to my windshield for 3 years without a hitch... this one fell off after 45 minutes...

EXCELLENT GPS
I used the GPS along with the Italy map in Europe and it worked great. The auto and pedistrian navigation systems were very helpful and precise in Rome, Pisa, Florence and Central Italy. I'm sure that if I had traveled to other locations within Italy it would have provided the same features. The only issue is that the voice command features would not function in that country, however it works great in North America.
My cousins in Italy loved the unit and are considering purchasing the same in their country when it becomes available.

GREAT NEW GPS
Pros: small size, great graphics Cons: reception, blue tooth connection,
Love this unit. Sound quality is good as are the added graphics quality. Nice and small, fits in your pocket while walking around town. The only negatives are that the reception is not as good as my Nuvi 360 and that was a clear problem driving down town Chicago, among the large buildings. Would constantly loose the signals and by the time it got them back, recalculated, you were long past where you needed to turn, then back again. Sitting side by side in the living room window, the 360 had no problem accessing the satellites, while the 3790 could not. On the open road to Chicago though, this unit was great. The blue tooth connection to my blackberry is the pits. every time you disconnect, you have go through the connection functions again on the 3790 where I would have hoped it would have automatically re-connected.

GREAT GPS
Great GPS. I’ve had the GPS for several days and it’s great. It has better maps than my older street pilot and more functions. Every thing works the way it should. The only complaint is with the voice command is a little intermittent, I haven’t quite figured out what pronunciation works the best for some of the commands. It’s quite hilarious what it thinks you are saying. I would have liked some sort of voice rec training function that would learn the way I pronounce words. I’m Canadian eh, I think NUVI is American and even with my best try at speaking American it’s a little lost at times.
This isn’t a big complaint the device is great and I would still give it a 5/5 and highly recommend the GPS.

GARMIN 3790T WELL WORTH CONSIDERING
Pros: sleek styling, versatile orientation Cons: battery life, manual entry of addresses
The new Garmin 3790T is a very sleek and versatile GPS. The overall features and compact package make it a great choice. The ability to orient the unit in either vertical or horizontal format is a nice additional feature - especially if taking advantage of the pedestrian mode so that it fits nicely into your hand. The size allows it to be tucked away in a pocket or hidden from view and possible theft.
A feature that I wasn't sure would be functional in Edmonton surprisingly is and works well (I thought this would only function in major US cities). The GPS displays areas of high congestion or reduced traffic flows which can allow you to take an alternate route if desired.
Another nice feature is the warning of safety camera locations (fixed and common roaming spots). Although I did not purchase the unit for this feature, it has been a great reminder for speed verification while travelling in these areas.
This is my first GPS unit and have so far found it to be a great addition to my travels.
I did however find two negative characteristics that may affect a person's decision on purchasing this or any GPS.
1. Pertaining to this specific model - The sleek styling comes at the expense of a reduced battery life. I find that this model lasts about 1.5 - 2 hours per charge. To avoid having to scramble for the charging cord, it is easier to keep the unit plugged in than to have the battery relatively quickly run down during long trips. If you require a long battery life, another model may serve you better. 2. Pertaining to GPS units in general - since this is my first GPS, I was expecting to be able to download my personal address book from Outlook into the device. I have found out that this is not the case and you must enter each address manually which is time consuming and an additional step that I was not expecting to have to perform. This capability is something that I would definitely pay for if it were available.

BEST AUTO GPS GARMIN NUVI 3790T
Pros: accurate, easy to understand instructions. Cons: none
We had a Nuvi 350 for 4yrs prior to buying our Nuvi 3790T. The 350 we owned worked Flawlessly for us all that time and even though we have had this Nuvi 3790T for only a month it appears to function just as well, and the added features are most welcome. I suggest you check out the Garmin website, {www.gramin.com} and read about the various units available, choose the unit that appeals to ypu and fills your needs and buy it. You will be very satisfied with your choice I am sure. The GPS units from GARMIN are I believe the BEST available anywhere.

GARMIN LIVES UP TO ITS PROMISES
Pros: great screen, slick design, voice commands. Cons: quiet speaker , screen attracts fingerprints.
The Garmin 3790t lives up to all promises and should be a great unit for years - the screen is excellent in all light levels. The voice command works very well and resists noise - useful in heavy traffic. The speaker could be louder, but is fairly clear. Just wish it had an external headphone jack and MP3 play capability like my last Garmin, but the improved features here more than make up for that.

VERY NICE SO FAR
Pros: voice command, improved display, speed of unit Cons: finger prints on screen
I just got my 3790T yesterday and so far so good. Here are the things I like: Size and weight of the device, display resolution and clarity, smooth movement when navigating, iPhone type interface (scrolling through menus with a flick of your finger) Easy transfer of Favorites by copying the "current.gpx" file
Here's what I REALLY Like: VOICE COMMAND. I don't know how many times with my nuvi 760, I was enroute somewhere and I then say "I need to find a CIBC bank". I then have to try and type that in either while driving (not safe or legal) or pull over and change my route (not convenient). With the voice command, I can change my route, mute the device, change the brightness without lifting a finger (I can save the finger for those wacky Quebec drivers). The most surprising part of the voice command feature is that it actually works. I have been amazed so far how few times I need to repeat myself. It's been almost bang on every time. Hats off to GARMIN for that!
What don't I like? Finger prints collect on the new glass screen very, very easily Power button does require a finger nail or extra pressure to engage So far no lifetime maps to purchase off of Garmin's site I haven't tried this yet, but I believe I've read that the 3790T is not compatible with MapSource either
All in all if those are my only complaints about the product... I think Garmin's done a fine job! Did I mention I like the Voice Command feature? I think all GPS devices should and will be equiped with this moving forward.
Great devices and glad I made the move to it!
Happy Nuvi-ing!

GREAT STAND-ALONE GPS PRODUCT, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Pros: voice activation, lane assist, nuroute technology Cons: battery life is acceptable but not excellent
I recently returned from a 2000 kilometre trip (each way) and had absolutely no issues. We were able to use the pre-loaded POIs to find hotels, coffee shops and shopping in each area. I pre-planned the first half of the trip (on the way there) with the "trip- planner" before we left for our journey. It was incredibly accurate in city and on the highway. This unit replaced my Nuvi 775T which replaced my in dash on my previous vehicle. This is by far the best unit I have owned. We chose a more spontaneous method to get home and had no issues finding stops when it was break time. The capacitive touch interface is a welcome change. It is much more accurate. This alone has completed removed the frustration of the passenger entering text while the vehicle is moving. The voice activation is not as useful as the phone integration. I connected my iphone and had no issues making and receiving calls. Garmin has improved upon every aspect of their previous Nuvi GPS units. The unit user (read wife) friendly and has everything I want in a GPS unit. Style wise it fits in perfectly with my other electronics. It no longer appears strange to have a GPS while walking around a city. Several apps on my iPhone work just fine for GPS purposes I prefer having a unit specifically for this purpose leaving my phone free for reading etc... while my iPad is in use. Great stand-alone GPS product, highly recommended.

LATEST GARMIN AUTO/PEDESTRIAN GPS NUVI3790T
Pros: voice recognition performance Cons: battery usefull life before chargeing required
Unit is slim and fits well to hand, but in-car installation creates the usual clutter of awkward power cord placement and "just right" visual angle on mounting hardware. Since the unit is advertised as a multi use GPS (auto & pedestrian), battery life of approx 2 hours is a bit thin, when exploring a strange city, but only if you've forgotten to obtain an official local street map, etc. as primary resource.

LOVE IT MORE THAN I THOUGHT I WOULD
Pros: great form factor, thin, excellent screen Cons: bluetooth did not work with my nokia n900
I didn't want to get a new PND and was even debating the idea where a separate nav device is necessary when all the smart phones these days comes with gps navigation. I must say that the 3780t sets a new standard for how a portable navigation device should be. Love the bright, clear screen that's also much better in sunlight than my previous Nuvi units.
The ability just rotate it 90 degrees to a vertical view have me wondering why we've been using the landscape view all these years. And the new multitouch interface is very intuitive and easy to use.
What's the down side? I can't setup routes in MapSource and send it to the unit. You have to plan your trips in the unit itself with the waypoints you upload or saved. Hopefully a firmware update will remedy this.
Another issue is that the bluetooth will not connect to my N90 when both the ancient Nuvi 360 and old 760 had no problems.

WAS RXCITED ABOUT THE 3790T BUT.....
Pros: locking fast, easy to operate, good voice command Cons: can not unlock my european map on the 3790t
When I first turn on the 3790T I was very impressed about all the features it offers. It does lock in very quickly. And the functions are very similar to my nuvi760.
My main deception is that in 2005 I bouth the European map for my 760 (I paid over $300) and and I was sure that I could reclock that map on the 760 and unlock it on the 3790T. But it ain't true. The only one thing I can now do with it is throw it in the dustbin since I am selling the 760 to somebody that do not want the European map

GREAT GPS BUT
Pros: 3d- very fast, ability to plan routes Cons: lack of fm transmitter, and no mp3, no 120v charge
this is a great gps but it only has 3d building of downtowns of major centers most cites are not in 3d although the terrain is.
from what i can tell lane assist is only for major areas as well places like edmonton are not major even though there is lots of 4 lane. I'll be heading to vancouver and see if it is better there.

SMALLEST AND BEST GPS
I don't agree at all with the review from "Garmin fan". The screen on the Nuvi 3790T is probably the best screen ever made for a GPS device. Yes, one of the lowdown is the screen attract fingerprints like a magnet.
Second, I love when I see people say: "you better get a regular map than a GPS". Even a cheap GPS is better than a regular map, a map doesn't give you POI (points of interest), lane assist and a bunch of other functions.
What you have to keep in mind when you buy a GPS is how long the company has been in business. It's no fun when a company goes bankrupt and you can't update your GPS map(s) no more. Also, probably the most important step is to know how much it's going to cost in the next few years to upgrade these maps. A cheaper GPS can be more expensive in the long run if the company charges you more annually to upgrade these maps.
As for the screen sensitivity and gestures, I think "GPS fan" is comparing apples to oranges, unless you already have a iphone 4. The 755 and 3790 are two completely different devices. Yes, you pay more for the 3790, but this will still be the case when a new model supersedes the 3790. You pay more for portability, 3D terrain view, voice recognition and nuroute technology.
As for route search engine, the unit offer nuroute technology which will tell you which route to take according to the traffic.
Maybe, one of the cons of this device is the voice have been changed in a long time, does not say street names in French, the north american map has not been update in the last couple of years and finally, the rechargeable battery is not replaceable. Therefore, you need to carry a usb cable or charge the device in your car after about 3 hours of operation.
This is the device to get if you need portability!

EVERYTHING IT CLAIMS TO BE
Cons: voice from text needs to be upgraded!!!!!
Clear sharp picture. Touch screen works flawlessly. Voice recognition works better than the 885 model and exceeded my expectations. Size make the unit suitable to carry in your pocket or purse when walking or hiking. I would use some kind of soft cover to protect the screen from scratching.
The re-routing feature worked to perfection for me when I was driving to Phoenix. The system auto re-fouted me around the traffic problem.
Voice reproduction should have been upgraded on a unit that retails for $450.
Battery life is good. Be sure you hold the off button until the "Off" sign appears or battery will drain.

SAVE $ AND WAIT
Pros: show off item Cons: not there yet
Unfortunately screen glare makes this GPS unusable. You will have to make some sort of ‘shield’ if you plan to mount it on a car’s windshield. cityXplorer is a joke. You are better if you do proper research of foreign city and make ‘paper plan’ than to rely on this unit. Screen sensitivity and gestures are far from iPod’s. I am not saying this is a bad unit and if you are early adopter go ahead and add another $500 toy to your collection. It will make good company to your iPod, iPad, iPhone, etc. Currently a better buy is the 7x5T series (yes, discontinued but far the best unit ever made by Garmin) where you can have 755T for around $200 to your door.

BEST GPS
If you compared this GPS to previous model, you get the same voice functionality, but a lot more stable than the nuvi 855 or 885T. The POI database has been updated and it is easier (and faster) to find big name stores without going through the different POI categories. Be advised, however, you cannot update the POI database manually by using an external list like POI factory. This model is so new that many company website do not have the new model in their database. As for the battery, two big minuses are that it doesn't last more than 2.5/3 hours max. and the battery is not removable. Also, this unit has no FM transmitter option, but this might be overlooked since the gps holder has an extremely good speaker. One other big plus for the new nuvi model is the addition of city explorer maps (available as a separate purchase) so you can go from point A to point B using the subway in the city of your choice. There is an option available in city explorer maps for buses and trains, but no information was displayed. I tried with maps from Toronto and New York city and no buses or trains information was available. There is many options available on this unit that makes it a good upgrade if you don't mind paying the extra cash. Keep in mind that one option like 3-D building is pretty much useless in Canada since less than 5 buildings are available on the Montreal map. A building like place Ville-Marie should be there and it's not! Maybe in a few years it will be an option worth upgrading to!
