We bought our Nuvi 660 to replace the maps and books that we previously used as navigational aids. In way too many instances when we were in new cities, we had lots of problems finding street signs while avoiding rush hour traffic and trying to read the maps at the same time. Our new GPS has outperformed our expectations in every way.
Impressive! Our 1st test was the drive from the airport in Ft. Lauderdale to our hotel late at night when we were tired and the traffic was busy. Wonderful results! My wife who had previously questioned why I wanted more useless technology praised me for buying the NUVI 660 after we arrived at our hotel with no missed turns and no arguments. Now, she has named it Jill and has laid claim to her. She does all of the set ups prior to departure. She especially likes the feature that helps her locate and get to malls.
Before leaving our hotel, the clerk advised of 2 major traffic accidents on the interstate so we just proceeded leaving the routing up to the GPS. The re-routing feature was absolutely fantastic as the alternate route took 2 minutes longer than the original estimated routing time.
A few days later, our 660 helped us by finding the closest gas station when the warning light came on in our rental. Wow, that was a blessing as had we kept going the way we were, the next gas station was close to 40 miles down the road.
The last feature I appreciated was the announcement of an accident and the estimated time delay.
The only recommendation is with regard to the keyboard. I still find it hard working with the alphabetized keyboard after working exclusively with the QWERTY style.
On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, my wife and I rate it 5 plus.

hi there, I recently bought my 2nd Garmin GPS, but found couple issues as bleow: 1. I drove from Toronto to Mississauga 43km apart, my first Garmin Street Pilot 2610 guided me on HWY 401W Express on the way and it really makes sense to me, but the NUVI 660 took me to the "Collector lane" instead which has more megering traffic & Exits I have to deal with! 2. On the Street Pilot 2610, it shows me the direction arrow but the Nuvi doesn't show this important info in the 3D routing mode until I touch the screen to get the North up 2D view OR the Trip info page on the busy roads, it's too dangerous to do so! 3. In the driving mode, Street pilot shows me the street name & even the number that I'm driving on but the nuvi doesn't do that, shows street ahead only. 4. when doing find on Street Pliot 2610 for the INTL airports in Toronto, Canada, it shows me Pearson INTL airport T1 Arrival, Departure, T2 Arrival, Departure & T3 Arrival, Departure, perfect! However, Nuvi only shows me 4 same names of " Pearson INTL airport"??!! don't know which one is T1, T2 and T3??? they're miles apart!!! 5. As you've been aware from many reviews, the FM Transmitter to pick up a CLEAR radio channel, I've to connect to a MCX external antenna but it's now no that handy but a little messy.

NUVI 660
I got my Nuvi 660 for Christmas and have been playing with it for the last few days. The unit is really easy to use and will only highlight some of my observations/frustrations. Since I am in the Montreal area the 660 is really comical in the speech of French names when using it in English. Also, street names are preceded by rue(street), chemin(road), etc. and the 660 cannot find the addresses. I also found that I have to enter the exact format and spelling to find addresses, ex: mount xxxx could not be found until I looked at another map on my PC and found it was shown as Mt. xxxx. The FM option is not too reliable and lost the signal often no matter how many times I re-tuned the FM frequency. The car mount is not really useful for me as the windshield on both cars is too far away and I don't want to use the mounting pad provided because I am afraid it will damage/mark the dash when I want to take the pad off. One other observation, since I have been handling the unit often to input information, I found myself shutting off the 660 inadvertently as the position of the power switch is at the corner where I tend to hold the unit. I am happy with the 660 but since it is my first experience with a GPS unit I can't really comment on what it does better then other units on the market.

I bought the 660 about 8 months ago and am very pleased with it. My last GPS was a Garmin eMap which I still use (purchased from GPSCity when they first started) The Nuvi is such an advancement I don't know where to begin. Excellent screen day or night, fast calculations, greater accuracy and user friendly. I have'nt looked at the manual once, very intuitive. I took the unit to Houston and Montreal so far and have easily paid for the unit in gas and time savings. Little bit of a querk when reading french road info in english - can be comical at times but overall I'd definately put this unit on your list if you are looking for a great GPS.

OVER RATED AND PRICED
I bought this unit because of the touch screen. I was looking for something that was fast to enter an address as I am in the fire/ems service. Data entry was fast and the sceen was easy to see in the brightest sunlight. The FM transmitter was useless. I would say this unit is more of an overpriced mp3 player with a stripped down GPS unit. When navigating to a waypoint the unit will not display your speed as there are only two data fields that can't be changed. If you want to see your speed you have to leave your map page but the unit will not go back to the map when you have to make a turn. Also the unit does not have a breadcrumb trail so if you have an area like here in northern Michigan and you get off on some two track you better know where you are going because the gps becomes useless. The fact that tere are only two data fields really surprises me from garmin. My GPS V has 5 times the navigation features of the 660 with 4 data fields that can be changed to display any of about 20 different items. The bluetooth did work prety good but with a Nextel phone it was more of a hassel then it was worth. I returned the 660 and I am using my GPS V for now. I have always been a Garmin user but I might have to start looking at other brands. I think Garmin needs to leave the mp3 market to Apple and stick to making GPS units

I received mine the day before I left to fly to the East Coast. I had a fairly complicated trip to make which included a week of traveling with my three grandchildren. Having the ability to pre-enter the many destination addresses from the comfort of my hotel was OUTSTANDING!! Was never lost, and never stressed because I was unsure of how to get where I was going. Plus I can see it very clearly while wearing my sunglasses, something I have a problem doing with the Navigation system built-in to my Acura.

DRIVER
Hi, I bought my Nuvi 660 with the purpose of using it to learn the roads in BC after I moved there for work. I ordered it from GPSCity on a Sunday night and it was there on the Tuesday as expected. Impressive. First test was to drive cross country from Ontario to Vancouver. In Chicago the 660 warned me of all road closures and detours. The voice commands could be heard over the 2 screaming cats I was transporting for the trip. In North Dakota, with the rear end of my truck showing signs of leaving me stranded, the 660 showed me all the gas stations from Bismarck to Saskatchewan. Even the ones that were in towns that weren't on my map. I must mention that when my brand new trailer's brakes failed, the Nuvi found a place for me to have the wiring fixed. The only glitches I encountered were in Alberta where I spotted an ESSO station on the other side of the HWY and the Nuvi instructed me to do numerous U-turns around a tight median. I ignored it and headed in the direction of the ESSO station. I haven't found any Canadian locations that allow the road condition feature to work, but it did pay for itself in Chicago. In Vancouver, it has lead me down roads that have no exit. But I don't consider it a flaw. The signs could have been added after the software was developed. All in all, I would say it is 99.5% accurate. (I still hold a grudge about those U-turns in my truck, hauling a 16 ft trailer around and around a median). I find it is fast to locate, fast to recalculate if I opt to change my direction to avoid an accident. Maps are very accurate. This is my third Garmin and first purchase from GPSCity. VERY SATISFIED with both.

This item is awesome! Just got it today and love it. They must have taken care of the FM transmitter. No problems here. I have an external antenna on my truck for the stereo and this might be contributing factor to the better reception. My wife enjoys not having to change out CD's. This was an upgrade from a Garmin V. It is great not load maps before a trip. Garmin V is permanently attached to ATV now. Screen is the perfect size. Any bigger and you won't be able to see out of the windshield. Touch screen is also very responsive. Great product!

The FM transmitter on the Nuvi 660 is completely useless. The signal is so weak that static is heard unless the Nuvi is less than 2 feet from the antenna...not exactly a practical location! In addition, if it is mounted on the windshield, static is produced every time the windshield wipers move, so I can't use it when it is raining. Do not buy this model if you are hoping to use the FM transmitter.

This is my third Garmin.. This Nuvi 660 is so lightweight, so portable and so fast. It is the most user friendly GPS I have ever owned. Coupling the Bluetooth technology with this is a great feature especially on the road, being able to locate a hotel, locate it, have the phone number handy, and able to dial it by the press of a button, WOW!

I had the Nuvi 360 before and just got the Nuvi 660 yesterday, Speakers Volume is louder then the 360. The FM transmitter to play the MP3 to the radio is worthless, not strong enough especially if you have a car that have an antenne in the back sides window, it is a future that better not to be added on this unit. Everything els is good. I am a happy customer of Garmin.

I just purchase my Nuvi 660 and what a great unit. this is a significant improvment over the NUVI 350/360, such improvments as, the screen is much brighter, signal acquisition. A few flaws! the radio broadcast is not very good, so don't buy this unit for this feature alone, you'll be very dissappointed. If you are in Canada, this is the ultimate GPS, very mapping, light and beautiful screen. This is my third garmin and won't be my last!

I have just replaced my iQue 3600 with the Nuvi and I am very impressed. The screen is much brighter, even clearly visible in sunlight, the processor is much faster with recalculation almost instantaneous. Navigation was maintained even on the lower level of the GW Bridge where it had been lost before. The 3D mapping is really beautiful - better than what I had expected. Still trying to find out the use of the traffic information and detour for avoidance. I wish a paper manual were available. The POIs are very comprehensive and easy to maneuver. I was concerned that I would find it difficult to go from the Palm writing system to the touch screen - but I have not found it to be a problem and in some ways easier to use. I just discovered the MP3 player and it sounds sweet on my FM radio - a little difficulty finding a free station in the NY area but once found - static free. When I paired the Nuvi with my Motorola Razr cell phone my directory was imported - nice feature. Use of bluetooth for calls is a real plus - works very well. Overall after three days using the Nuvi 660 in NY metro area I love this GPS. Garmin has made what I consider a perfect GPS for the car - well done.

This is my first GPS purchase and I couldn't be happier. My interest began after reading reviews in Consumer Reports which rated the Nuvi 350 at the top of the bunch. Then I saw there was the 360 which had the Bluetooth feature which I liked. Then I saw the Nuvi 660 was going to be released towards the end of September. I decided to wait seeing that it had some significant enhancements for not much more money that the 360. It was worth the wait. I have already impressed my friends with its features. It is extremely intuitive, sleek and sexy, a big bright screen that shows in any light and loud enough (a flaw in some of its predecessors). The touch screen works beautifully. I agree with others that the FM transmitter is weak, but truthfully, this feature is just a nice extra, not a major plus. I prefer to use my Ipod for playing MP3's, but it is neat that you have the ability. There are so many features in this unit that make it a must have if you are looking for a GPS. I've even walked the streets with it looking for certain stores and it was helpful. I too have a Motorola V3 Razr phone and it integrates flawlessly with the 660. You can even use the voice dial feature of your phone through the 660. See who's calling on the screen and answer the call. Really, what else can one ask for? The Nuvi 660 is a fantastic feature-rich unit that in my opinion has no major flaws. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this one.
