SET UP AND UTILITIES!
I now have my Oregon 550 open all the time with the 12 volt cig plug in.The best way to learn and understand any GPS, is to have it switch on any time. For the base mount,I used and adapt velcro's to the components inclued. This way I can transfer the mount from the pick up to the car. Note that melt glue is also an option for semi permanent fix. Sorry for my english!

EXCELLENT MULTIPURPOSE ADAPTER
Pros: function, interchangeable with other garmin mounts Cons: none
Bought this mainly to get the 'socket' adapter. This is the part that connects to the unit via the mouting spine on the back of several Garmin handhelds - in my case the GPSMap 62st - which then mounts to the actual 'ball' on the mount's gooseneck. All these garmin ball-and-socket mounts appear to be interchangeable. In my case, I already have the beanbag dashboard mount ('Portable Friction Mount' in Garmin-speak), p/n 010-10908-02. I use this mostly with a Nuvi, but want to be able to use it as well with the 62st. Works like a charm... the rest of the 'Autonav Kit' will join the rest of my growing collection of unused Garmin accessory parts. (Who the heck is going to stick that round mounting donut on the dash of their Mercedes?)

THE SUCTION CUP PROBLEM
I have tried the kit with my Colorado 300 for a 1500 km trip on the weekend. The suction cup dropped from the window at least 5 times during the trip. While driving it is difficult to reinstall it. Before the last 200 km, I cleaned both the suction cup and window surfaces with cologne and it didn't drop. But I need further drive to decide if this works. At the end of June, I will go to holiday and test it.

GARMIN OREGON
Pros: has lots of functions Cons: display and lack of instructions
I am new to Gps but the Oregon seams to be a great device with lots of functionality. As i am new to Gps it took me some time to get my head around it. Downside to is is that it is quite difficult to see outdoors but this can be improved by importing a white back ground. Google this to find the files on the web. Other problem i noticed is that when you turn on Marine fishing mode it no more shows the street details. I am not sure if this is a defect on mine or as you are in fishing mode the streets are not needed. Also the instructions that comes with it are not detail enough so quite a bit of googling is required if you really want to know what it can do. Still trying to import maps into it and having difficulty. Not as easy as the instruction (again these instructions don't come with the Garmin. All over despite the -ve a great device but time is needed to figure it out.

MORE THAN YOU NEED
Pros: appropriate for the task
The key part of this is the bracket that holds the GPS. It has a standard socket for the ball that is part of the windshield attachment. The latter and power cord are what come with every auto GPS Garmin sells and which you probably have.

GOOD MOUNT
Pros: solid mount Cons: stiff cable
The suction cup mount seems to hold well on the windshield. The power cable works good but is not very flexible in cold weather.Using it with a GPSMAP 62S.

WORKED GREAT, UNTIL IT BROKE
Pros: nice articulation, did the job Cons: too fragile in the base swivel. broken in 2 yrs
I bought this in 2008. This was a great kit, and I was very pleased with it. My usage was normally in one car, but every month or so, I would remove the suction-cup mount, and install it in our van. On one occasion, I made the move, and the hinge broke. The mount is now useless, because the hinge is just a small plastic loop over a metal pin, and no repair will create a strong enough bond to make the hinge sturdy enough. Oh well. :(

FANTASTIC MOUNT DESIGN
Pros: cheap, great design, easy on/off removal Cons: none
I picked up this mount at the same time as my Oregon 550. What a brilliant design. I use my Oregon 100% for geocaching and with the easy snap-on, snap-off design it's easy to quickly hop in and out of the car when on a cache run.
The windshield mount so far is proving to hold very well even in the cold temperatures. Have to see how it works as the winter wears on.

A GOOD FIT MOUNT
Pros: takes up little space, easy to install Cons: non so far
For some time now, I am using this model mount from Garmin. It mounts easily, although I would recommend placing the adhesive part on a horizontal surface.

PAS TERRIBLE
Le fil est trop rigide pour une utilisation hivernale, le support se décolle souvent du pare-brise.
