GREAT GPS FOR EUROPE AND N AMERICA

The best value for money around if you need both Europe and N America. Screen is easy to read in all conditions - though pity there isn't an automatic brightness control with a light sensor - having to reset it from day to night is a minor irritant. Mapping for Spanish autoroutes needs updating - I had several places along the A-7 and AP-7 S of barcelona where the intersections (and directions) were totally wrong. Tracking is a good feature, when working with Map Source - but some tracks failed to download, and the maps don't transfer into Map Source as I understand they should. However, overall very good, where the roads have not changed recently!

Pros: fits in shirt pocket, and tracks routes.
Cons: routes driven can't be saved on the unit.

VERY SATISFIED

My purchase of the Nuvi 770 was to replace a stolen 780. As near as I can tell they are identical. I was very happy with the features and performance of my 780 and, after somewhat limited use, I'm sure that I will be just as happy with the 770. As received from GPSCity, the product was "as new" with all the same standard accessories included in the box. I haven't tried the traffic information yet but I'm not sure if it would be helpful anyway - if it is anything like the traffic info on commercial radio, it will be old info and more likely to cause unnecessary diversions while not preventing delays due to more current traffic problems.

Pros: see above
Cons: audio thru fm is disfunctional due static backgrou

PERFECT FIT FOR ME

Had a hard time finding a GPS that offered Bluetooth, audio output and jack for external antenna. This one does all that and at a refurb price was a steal! I travel alot for my job, and often rent cars. Most european and many NA cars have a coating on the windshield that almost completely blocks out GPS satellite signals - hence the need for an external antenna (try using a GPS in a recent GM minivan - it'll never get a satellite lock). The audio output is also great for running the GPS through the car's stereo (so I can listen to the built-in MP3 player, have the voice guidance cut in with instructions, or receive calls from my cell phone through the car's speakers). My only gripe is that I can't change the fields in the "Virtual Dashboard" the way I can on my old Garmin Quest. This is useful for information like time/distance to destination, time/distance to next turn, etc.

Pros: bluetooth, audio output, external antenna ready.
Cons: unable to change fields in "virtual dashboard".

A MUST FOR EUROPE

I used the Nuvi 770 throughout the Nordic area and found it to be extremely accurate and helpful. The two things I was not please with was the long time required to find new locations if I moved several hundred miles and the battery (internal) life was less then ideal.

Pros: good maps
Cons: battery life and satellite acquisition time

UNIT USED IN CROATIA, ITALY, BOSNIA

I bought this item in the last days before my flight to europe, and with ultra pronto shipping, the item arrived next day. I opened the item, and didn't know what to do but proceeded to plug the GPS into my computer, to update the maps. After some time on Garmin.com I realized that I was getting no progress, and called GPSCity, to explain that I could not see any update options on the website after registering my refurbished item. I was kindly instructed to call Garmin and if no progress was made, that GPS City would help me. I called Garmin and with some clicking of buttons on their end while on the phone, I was asked to go online, and would now see the option to update. I was given a free 2010 map of both North America and Europe. I flew to Italy and used my unit while walking in Venice to find my hotel in San Marco and then in my car rental as I drove from Venice to the Croatian border. I did get lost at least 4 times. I tried to understand why this is, but I believe it's because in Italy they have too many streets splitting off the main road at once, that the satellite is not quick enough to understand. I used both the road signs and gps, but to no avail, became lost. I have to say that surprisingly, the gps unit guided me immediately through some extremely narrow street (2 way but barely enough space for one car to drive by our standards) back onto the correct path. As I was driving up the very steep back road that was too narrow to keep my blood pressure down, the gps was very certain that this was the way for me to drive to get back on the right path. Surely in the end, it was. Then in Croatia and Slovenia----it worked like a charm. The GPS showed me paths, as well as roads. When I entered Bosnia then the unit went blank. I was prepared for this, but it was funny to see. As soon as I passed the border, the gps went blank, and then turned on as soon as I was back on track. I understood that the gps would read only main roads in Croatia, but it read the tiniest of streets, paths, back roads, in villages and towns as well as in cities. Excellent unit. In Italy the unit showed me when there was radar on the road for both speed & safety camera (traffic light). In Croatia it did not. I prefered not knowing because then I didn't feel guilty about driving 170 km/h on 130 km/h highways. The unit would immediately inform me, regardless of which country I was in, the speed limit, readjusting for school zones, etc. I looked for speed limit signs, and rarely saw any on the street---therefore, this was a definite advantage. I do recommend that you purchase a hard case for the unit while you carry it with you, and a bean bag pad to place the unit on while you drive. You don't want others to know you have a gps while your car is parked in foreign countries, to not pursuade any reason for a break-in. Whenever I would park, I would remove the bean bag the unit rested on, and the unit. With the unit while away I drove 3,500 kilometers. It was nice to know what time I was to arrive at my destination before I left. FYI--this is the 2nd Garmin I have purchased. First one I purchased was in Jan 2007, Streetpilot, but found it too lumpy to bring to Europe, and purchased this.

Pros: reads routes well, many great features
Cons: received very minimal errors

GREAT DIRECTION FINDER

We were referred to this unit from another user and we are very satisfied and glad we did. We recently moved to another state and this has been extremely helpful. The screen is very easy to follow directions, voice commands are clear and helpful and has eliminated stressful driving in a new community and state.I would recommend this unit to anyone who needs accurate information.

Pros: reliable, accurate, affordable & easy to use
Cons: none

GARMIN NUVI 770 REFURB

This is a decent gps at a great price! The Nuvi 770 has great features, among them is an easy to read display (for daytime and night time) that is clear and organized. Some other features that caught my attention are the media player (although it doesnt play movies...boo-urns!), picture viewer, points of interests, go home feature, and a readout of speed, time, and distance calculations. However, there are a few more apps that I failed to mention that are cool too! Also, the suction cup for mounting on the windshield works great, along with the dash mount!

However, I have found a few disadvantages, the bluetooth and fm transciever are a little underpowered (works ok but dont expect crystal clear sound - a little static noise). Also, it definitely needs a video player! These are things that Garmin really needs to work on!

My final thoughts...If you like electronics and gadgets this may be the gps for you. Im a first time buyer of a gps and I've bought this unit a week ago and have decided to keep it, despite its two very small disadvantages that I can overlook (transciever & bluetooth). Its a good all around gps for the price.

Pros: n.a. 2009 & europe maps loaded!
Cons: no movie player!, underpowered bluetooth & fm tx

GARMIN REFURBISHED NUVI 770

I have a ZUMO 550 which has served me well, but when I found this chance to get a GPS that has both US and Europe, I had to get in. Ilike that it indicates the speed limit for major in town roads, and the traffic alert was a surprise, but appreciated. I wish it paged through a few pages like the Zumo, but not a deal breaker. Get the life map updates, and you really have a great product

Pros: traffic alert, posted speed limits for major stree
Cons: missing a few informational pages
