| MOUNTING A GARMIN SP7200 IN MY MOTORHOME |

 List of Parts I Used | | | |

I mounted a Garmin SreetPilot 7200 in my motor home for a LOT less money than I'd have had to pay to have one installed by the factory. Instead of the Garmin stock mount, I mounted it on the face of the dash using a Ram Mount with two ball joints. I purchased the parts from Expressmounts.com.
The SP7200 is a great GPS mapping system that is large, easy to see and intuitive to use. And it comes loaded with features. This model also plays Audible Books, MP3 music, and even XM radio. You can plug in an SD card to store a vast amount of music, audio books, and POI's. I wired the audio lead into the Aux #2 input of the dash Magnadyne Radio. The 12v lead is wired to the dash radio switch so that it works with the ignition off. There are no wires laying on the dashboard making for a very clean installation. |

| RAM FLEX LEG IN CAR MOUNT FOR GARMIN STREETPILOT 7200 IN A 2006 ACCORD |
|
|
Here are some photos on my new GPS in my 2006 Accord. Special thanks to Chris (tech support) for recommending this RAM Mount. As you can see I had to bend to bracket slightly to fit under the seat bolt (I also replaced the bolt with a longer one since I lost some of the thread engagement due to the added thickness of the bracket and washers). I also added some one inch black corrugated split tubing over the arm to allow room for the cables (power, GA27C & GXM30 antennas, and audio line out). I added an auxiliary audio input to my stock stereo to accommodate the 7200’s audio output. This is a very impressive GPS not only the map display and the MP3 player, but the XM Radio and especially the NAV Traffic. I got on the freeway after church today listening to XM Radio and herd – “traffic ahead”. I tapped the yellow triangle on the display and saw an alert about a stalled car in the right lane a few miles ahead. I’m planning a 2,000 mile road trip in a few months and am really looking forward to it. If you have any questions about the installation, please let me know. |

| RAM MOUNT OF GARMIN 7200 IN A FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC |
|
|
I have provided photos (1-5) that show the general installation sequence (see attachment). Of course, there was drilling, installation of a grommet for the wires to pass through, hardwiring the 7200 harness into the vehicle's 12V system (with the proper inline fuse), etc.
Parts:
RAP-B-202U - after drilling holes to coincide with this mount's holes, I used a piece of rubber behind the mount to separate the console from the mount (no plastic on plastic rattles). I also used a cut piece of plywood as a backplate to the console to give it strength and spread out the weight of the Garmin StreetPilot 7200.
R10-10749-00 - I purchased an extra Garmin cradle so I could splice one into the Trac's 12V system while having an extra cradle to use in other vehicles.
RAM-B-202-G3U - I attached a ram mount to the Garmin cradle using this mount and hardware.
RAM-B-201U-A - This links the RAM mount on the console to the RAM mount on the rear of the Garmin cradle.
Description:
The Garmin 7200 is a great, but big, GPS unit. It would have created an immense blind spot if I sat it on my dash. Using the fantastic RAM Mount system, I was able to install it where I could easily glance at its screen and access its functions, yet still preserve my windshield view. I have driven with this installation for over 5,000 miles and could not be happier. Undoubtedly, RAM offers a fantastic installation system for those "custom" jobs. Thanks! |
